Dominican Media Biased and unfair!!!!!!

It is disgusting how the Dominican Media is biased and prejudice in so many diferent topics.

most of Dominican Newspaper have a leftish agenda and most of the time, the bad guys are portrait like the good ones.

it is obvious the bias against USA, and Israel and most of the western countries and the favorable comments about Saddam, fidel, hugo chavez...and even bin laden.

often unknown sources of news are quoted and print in headlines like credible news, without explaining the origines of it...
like when Irak election that they write in the front of the news that
SADDAM HAS 100% OF IRAK VOTES, A SLAP IN USA FACE!!
but the never write whatsoever that this is the only party that went to the elections.
its time to stop the dominican media to sell they own agenda to the domincan people.

That is an interesting observation, leonardo. By coincidence I was talking with a British neighbor last evening and she was blasting the US foreign policy. In course of conversation she took great satisfaction in telling me that the DR had voted against the US in the UN on the Iraq resolution. (If it did, I didn't know it.)

There have been several threads over past few months on the subject of the relationship between the DR and the US, primarily focusing on what the expats who are US citizens have experienced. I've lived in the DR for 16 years and have never felt any animosity because I am from the US. The others who responded to those threads indicated the same. I guess my point is that if there is an anti US bias in some circles in the DR, so far this hasn't affected the man on the street, at least not those I have come in contact with, or at least not to the point where it was so evident that I became aware of it.

You are absolutely right!!!

There is a media group in DR who continues their campaign to discredit George Bush and the U.S. government. However their intend has nothing to do with nationalism or political ideology. There are right wingers as much as left wingers in this biased campaign. I believe these anti-american gurus are mostly afraid of the U.S. concern for their personal involvement in DR corruption, of which most are beneficiaries.

The Dominican government is part of this campaign. Hippo is a reluctant ally of the U.S. Underneath it all Hippo people are pro-Saddam and do not support the U.S. effort against terrorism. The reason is clear. The Dominican government fares better under world chaos, where their illegal activities can be hidden. Alvaro Arvelo Hijo, one of the most anti-american media persons hates Israel and Sharon and thinks that Saddam Hussein should be sanctified. Fortunately, the armed forces are the counterbalance.

Notice for instance that DR has extremely close relations with Castro, Chavez and now Lula in Brazil.

But Hippo and his crew will be eating crow by next year when the Marines touch DR territory to clean this mess. I rather have the Yankees than these petty thieves running this country

I know that the DR isn't on the Security Council and that it didn't vote on the final Resolution sending the inspectors (unanimously approved by SC), but I seem to recall that at some point in the process the General Assembly voted in order to get some sense of what the UN was thinking. At least that was what I was thinking when she spouted off on the US' foreign policy.

Well, let me tell you Ken, that the people on the street and villages, it's not Anti-american or Anti-western, that is the reason why you will not find animosity in the regular folks. this campaign of Anti-western propaganda is mostly in the people that have control of the media, they came fron the UASD(universidad Autonoma), that is where most of them got an education, and is well known that this university is a nest of leftish ideas., they still haven't grow, and are still thinking like 20 years ago, when there was a lot of comunist ideas in the different dominican colleges, specially this one. I think is time somebody do something about it, I did not knew the different before when i was living in the island, but Know that I am living abroad i can see all the bias they portrait in the news.

How can a country where 75% of the population want to go to visit someday, hate it? is only a bunch of fools, but unfortunatelly , they are the ones with access to the media in the country.

Do you believe this has been true under every administration, or is it more so under the Hippo administration? For example, it seemed to me that Leonel had a positive attitude toward the US.

I think that because Leonel have an American education, an because he live for a long time in United states he was more Pro-western than Hippo. his party the PLD used to have socialist ideas, but they have change their comunist agenda since they became a major party.

The US media is biased, too. CNN, FAUX (Fox), CBS, ABC, NBC, the Washington Post, and yes, even the so-called bastion of liberal media, the New York Times, is biased. They are all biased towards the right. They are part of the right-wing conspiracy.

The BBC and the Electronic Intifada give us the "other" side of the news. Those two, and a couple of Canadian newspapers are the only unbiased news sources around. I hear that the French media is also very neutral, but I don't understand French.

The only Major news outlet that is not biased towards the left is FOX and they are middle of the road!

In what way is the Media that You named Right Wing? Did the NY Times come out against Gun Control? Against Afirmative action? Against school busing? For cuts in Welfare and wasteful social Programs? Against higher taxes?

Puhleeze. The Liberal's arguments denying the existance of the liberal media is weak at best!

When the New York Times or CNN comes out and states that Social Security should be abolished only then will I say That the Media isn't liberal

Rush, on Nov 20th, finally admitted that the media is non-liberal.
And that's about the only truth he'll ever tell.
