The meaning of 'bambalina' in DR!

Does anyone know or have any ideas to what the word 'bambalina' means in the Dominican Republic. Is it a nickname? ...;)

I have just been told............

that "bambalina" is the part of the tablecloth that hangs over the edge of the table,as in "ruffle".Anything can be used as a nickname here! CRISCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

It is a painted piece of cloth of paper that completes the decoration for a theater play... sort of like the background. The expression "tras bambalinas" means "behind the stage", a hidden, conceiled, or unappreciated work.

Pib and Criss are both correct

Pib, while you may have the original bambalina origin, Criss is correct too, at least on the side of instituional use in hotels, catererers and convention organizers. La bambalina is used in DR for tableclothes in professional events. When I used to sell equipment for hotels this was a most required item for table decoration and practical use.
