Well, we are about to get whomped with an ice storm. I don't anticipate going to work tomorrow and I pray that my husband doesn't have to go either. If we keep our electricity tomorrow, I let you know how slick it gets!
Wish I was in Sosua, snorkeling!!

Better there than here, MaineGirl. But I bet you are one of those people who don't think it is Christmas without a lot of snow.

Gah! No fair, Jan.
Today is crystalline. I am kicking myself for not having a roll of B&W film. I just woke up and it is raining now. The fence posts in the riding ring have a garland of icicles! Every tree and shrub is glazed. I can't wait for a bit of sun to come out and illuminate everything. It's fun when you don't have to drive in it.
Ken , you are right: I love a white Christmas. But, strangely enough, I like to have a warm birthday (which is in February)--right now I am working on convincing the hubby that we can afford a trip down to the DR then.

Sorry.......

For your troubles with snow, salt on the streets, messy melted snow, chilling temperatures, and so on.

The sun keeps shining here as if Dominican Republic was closer to the sun than the planet itself. The good news is that perhaps if the sun dies today, while it would take 8 minutes for all sunlight to disappear you and the people up north would freeze to death instantly before we do here in DR. Our death would be slower and more painful. But we won't live to experience that for another 50 billion years or more.

We have a very cold "peso" and a very "hot" dollar to deal with over here. We also have a president that calls us dirty names every day...like thieves, tax-dodgers, talibanes, babosos, etc. But I just take it with a smile now. Our stray dog population just grew again yesterday by another 15,000 new dogs. While we cannot find enough cheap food to feed ourselves, our stray dogs somehow manage to survive better than we do. There is this cute female dog on the Mirador Sur Park looking for adopted parents. I am told she has all the vaccines and eats leftovers. If interested we can make arrangements to have her sent to you. We are not sure if she likes the cold.

A new Casa De Campo dock for big ships was just opened. Want to dock here now? Hippo just inaugurated a fancy new road to Santiago's airport courtesy of AZB. AZB has exterminated every single available girl in Santiago. Every girl in the North has the AZB brand applied. The "Obelisco" at the Malecon has been repainted and lighted and a new super casino has been re-opened by our Master Money Launderer in the largest disco in the world. One of our teams owned by another Master Launderer has everyone beaten for the season. Pepe Goico is fine...thank you. His steaks are being served well done every day with fine Chilean wine.

Care to come down????

The snow is beautiful. So silent. The ice is glittery and beautiful to look at. Wouldn't mind a few days in the snow. Hearing the crunch under your feet. Feeling the fresh crisp air. Sitting in a warm house looking out the window. Seeing a few deer walking on the hillside, so calm and peaceful. But remember...only want to see it for a few days. Tehn return fast to my warm, sunny island!

Pesqueros de Heilo

Come on up to Wisconsin Jan. They're getting ready to start ice fishing behind my house. Me? I just go from hole in the ice to hole in the ice mooching beers. Then I go back inside where its warm and look at them through my nice warm living room.

Yesterday, there was a pair of deer grazing in our yard. It was actually a nice day, for December. It got up in the 40s and the sun was shining.
It will still be warm for Christmas, because we are driving to the Keys - as close to the DR we can get by car.
I expect we will be iced in once or twice this winter.
And we'd definately like to be in the DR to enjoy some of her warmth.
Family ties are strong.
DR1 helps.

I think that you sent it our way MaineGirl.

We are getting about a foot of snow today. Schools are closed.

It is a light and fluffy snow that is sticking to the trees.

Too bad I sent all of our winter clothes to GoodWill.

Think happy thoughts, Mainer. I'm moving to the DR in # days.
Only # more days 'till I'm outta here. Repeat as often as necessary.

Just hold it there Mary.....ok...I just saw a pair of guineas in my backyard. They are afraid I may have them for dinner tonight. I'll skip "guinea guisada en vino tinto"....Oh wait a minute...there's a "gallo de pelea" going kikirikikikiriki!!! Well, this cock may be going to the "gallera" this weekend and either bring some cold pesos for the owner or he may come back "ground chicken meat" from the gallera....oh wait a minute.....there's a gang of 10 stray dogs passing by and barking at all the cars passing by...oh well, the things you cannot see in Kenosha.

Merry Christmas to my Wisconsin friends....I really miss driving thru cornfields and watching those Holstein cows out there, and all the antique shops with those ruedas de diligencias...but thanks, I will stay here watching a street dog fight going on right now and a horny dog attached by the tail going circles with Madame Viralata.

Golo, you kind of remind me of the Grinch. In a nice way.

As for our adventure here, yesterday the power went out soon after I posted. No probs: I snuggled up in a comforter by our big window and read most of the day. We had no source of heat but I figured the power would come on soon. Plus, it was weaving in and out of freezing so it didn't feel that cold.

Hubby and I decided to go into town for some Salvadorean food at supper time, but found our car wouldn't make it down the drive. Getting the car off the ice was our task until dark. Then it hit us: it was night, it was cold, we were hungry, and who knew when the power would come on.

Since we live on an estate, we went up to the manor house (we live in groom's quarters), found the spare key and let ourselves in. (I think our land lady is someplace warm at the moment--like Dallas, maybe). We lit a big fire and put our sleeping bags on the hearth. We made s'mores, played cribbage, and finally blew out the candles so we could sleep. Every hour or so we would put another log on the fire. We woke to a chilled house--still no power--but it was warming up to a cool 38!

After a long day at work I am home again, the power is on, the icicles gone and there is green grass peeping out beneath the leftover snow.

At least in the DR, cuando no hay luz, you don't have to sleep with a wool cap on your head!

Hey Maine Girl

Guess what.....our neighborhood boys are wearing those wool caps at noon time with 90 degrees here!!! So dont feel so bad, its the fashionable thing to do. Those Enrique Iglesias caps are getting hot in DR. Also rip shorts that look like mini skirts with long strips.

By the way, to warm you up, let me suggest you watch a TV program that comes on at 8PM Santo Domingo time on Telemundo called "The Roof". This program is so hot you wont feel the below zero stuff.

Actually it is on Mund-2, telemundo's new network.
The "Roof" is an example of whats wrong with music today! But the babes are hot though!
I just want to get Kika and Rosanna from "Chat" in a 3 way!

As for me....Getting ready for that cold front that will pass through today. I hear it is going to get down to the Mid-60's tonight! Brrrrrr! Looks like I am going to have to put on the Pool Heater for my morning swim!

Hey Tony C

Besides not liking your hip-hop friends(specially I know you probably hate Puerto Ricans- Most Cubans do) down there in Florida, what do you think the 1970 Don Johnson Nash Bridges Yellow 'Cuda convertible is going to bring at the Classic Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona

Didn't know that that car would be at Barretts. Well it is not a real "Hemi-Cuda" But I suspect that the history should bring in some idiot with money. In the real world it is worth about $20 to $25K But because of it's provenance I expect around $45-$50K.

BTW I don't hate all Puerto Ricans. I just hate their Music!

Gabba Gabba Hey!
