I've just discovered this newsgroup. I've got a couple of weeks off from late January into February and have been thinking about the DR. Never been, but from what I can tell, it looks like a nice place. Don't really want to travel alone, so if you're going and we seem to get along, perhaps we can travel together (at least some of the way). I'm a white male who's 35 and am just looking for a nice vacation.
BTW: I was thinking of renting a motorcycle. Is the country very safe to travel in, or are there bands of muggers like other places where you're always worried about getting kidnapped or robbed? Sounds crazy, I know, but I have a 3 year old girl and my responsibilities to her have curbed what in earlier years might have been considered "adventurous." Thanks.
