I would like to purchase a 19-20 inch tv for
a friend in DR.
Can anyone help me with info as to
where I can purchase one on line or
if its less expensive I could send money to
a store?
I checked one place on internet and I couldn't
believe they want $499 (dollars not pesos) for a 20 inch TV that costs $199
here in New York City.
Please email me directly since I get lost in this "new" DR1 forum.

Yes TV's are artificially high in the DR for whatever reason.

But anyone with a computer shouldn't need a TV at all - install a TV tuner card for $50.

In some ways it"s better than a regular TV - you can scan all the channels, take snapshots and record video (the length depending on the size of your hard drive and the quality that you choose), and you can download TV schedules of the Stateside channels. You don't need a VCR at all.

Relatively, monitors are much cheaper in the DR than TV's - recently, for example, 17 inch ones were less than RD3500 - and of course their resolution is much higher than a TV's.

In other words, forget the TV (for yourself at least), but use the money to get a TV tuner and a bigger monitor.
