What are CD's in reference to banking? I thought it meant Cash Deposit, but after reading a few articles I don't think thats what you guys are referring to.

In the US as well as in the DR, CD means Certificate of Deposit.

I think in Canada they are called a GIC

Ahhhh, a GIC. Simply put, an investment locked in for a certian period of time at a certain percenatge.
