With the growing numbers of kidnapping, Lately, I have been seeing more and more rich folks driving around with armed body guard. One of my patients came in with an armed guard, a shot gun holding chopo. When I went to a political party, I saw nothing but armed body guards arriving with rich and powerful folks of santiago. Guys strapped with guns and shotguns.
There was a time when all these rich folks used to roam santiago streets in style and without worries; unfortunately those good times have long gone. With the increasing threat of kidnapping, the rich folks are taking proper precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones.
The diputados (house of deputies members....congressmen) also walk around with armed body guards. These guys used to hang with us simply by making a phone call. Now these guys only come when there is an important function and always have to bring body guards. Even when they go on dates they have their guards waiting outside or sometimes stay with them at the bars.
Many rich folks don't even leave their houses unless its something very important. They have armed guards at home and escorting them everywhere.
Last week I saw another one of my patients jogging with an armed guard along his side.
How sad.

Amazing

I did not realize they had kidnappings going on in the Dominican Republic. I am currently living on the island of Antigua and there are a great deal of kidnappings of the rich in Trinidad.

So I found your post very interesting. Apparently Trinidad is the kidnap capital of the world.

I guess it's good not to be rich and famous. I really don't have to worry about that.

The problem is the many of the "rich and famous" stole their wealth from the poor. How? You ask. When jobs disappear and costs of everyday items sky rocket....all without a corresponding pay increase....guess where the money is going. Take a read at DR1 from late last week. Yet another US$300+ million loan. But why? Because all the "diputados" and their cronies want a piece of the action. It seems that everyone section of the DR is getting an "aqueduct" built...each one costing US$100+million. Thats how all these politicians and "businessmen" are getting their wealth.

SO....these ladrones deserve what they get.

Kidnapping common in the Caribbean

From what I have read it has become quite common for there to be kidnapping in the Caribbean. The reason is it's easy money and most people who have kidnapped loved ones do not contact the police. This is easier money than running drugs.

There are many good people in the Caribbean but unfortunately crime can flourish very easily here. I am located in the island of Antigua and it is quite common for there to be child prostitution here. The reason again it's easy money. People are willing to prostitute their children rather than work.

Of course the government's inflate many things but I find it's just lack of ambition on the part of these people who commit these acts.
