Is it necessary to change a boat's country of registration in order to do sailing charters in the DR? In other words, can a U.S. documented vessel legally take passengers for hire in DR waters or must it br re-registered to fly the DR flag? If so, how much does this cost and how long does it take? Thanks.

All the vessels that I know of in Samana were required to have the DR flag. Your best bet is to go to a place like Samana and talk with some of the expatriate boat owners in business there.

Are you thinking of working on your own, or do you have prospects of a contract with a hotel? If the latter, they should be able to assist you with the reflagging.

Talk to Andy at Samana net. Yes, you have to have a Dominican registration as well as permission from the Dominican Tourism department to charter out of the Dominican Republic.
