Overstaying Visa

Being from the US i know i have 3 months or 90 days to stay in the DR. But who knows the penealty's if i stay 1 day over 1 week,1 year. etc,etc. Is there a set fee or when i get to the airport the customs agent just will invent some number?

We just overstayed our visitors visa (tourist card)

by 14 days......cost us RD$240. per person as we were leaving.
The immigration inspector looked at our card, calculated the cost and we paid it cash. Had the choice of paying $10US each or RD$240 pesos each.

Don't worry, their bark is worse than their bite. The process takes up a few minutes of your time at the airport and the fines are small. Regards, PJT

the fee maxes out a 600 pesos

That would be after bypassing the deadline by several years.

Is the tourist card valid for 90 days ? I thougt it was only valid 60 days ? I think I have read that before on this forum.
