I'll be travelling to Punta Cana in 6 days (sooo excited)

I was wondering how feasible it is to get out of the resort area. I'm travelling with a TIGHT budget and would like to see day-to-day life as well as experience the dominican culture.

I'm also interested in hiking, backpacking or ferry tours if available. I just don't want to stay in the resort for the whole trip.

I'd love any suggestions.

I've heard that family members of resort workers give tours through nearby villages. Is this recommended?

Any response is greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,
Gracias :)

www.
You will be able to book a variety of tours right at your hotel.

The closest alternate destination to where you are is La Romana.

Click on the Bavaro/Punta Cana link or on the La Romana link for info on the area. Also see info on the other destinations on this travel page.
