Hi,

I'm going on holiday to DR at the end of August. I have read that I should take USD in preference to DOP.

I live in Ireland so I'm using Euro as my local currency and I'm wondering if I might be better off taking Euros.

Does anyone have any thoughts/advice?

TIA,

Ken

Take US$

If you were budgeting $1000 US take maybe $300 in cash (smaller bills, like $20's and maybe 20 in $1's for tips etc.) and $700 in travelers cheques. Amex being the most recognized. I was in Boca Chica last week and the cambios were giving a bit of a bad deal on Euros vis-a-vis their true value as a % of the US$ so no sense in losing on the deal.

Intersting the taxi dispatchers wanted US$18 or RD$350 for the taxi to Boca Chica and that is equal to asking for either $18 US or $13.21 US so buy some pesos from the Banco Reservas or other bank at the airport.
