Banco Popular, Banco de Reservas, Banco BHD and others now offer dollar accounts. They offer savings accounts that carry an interest rate of 3 1/2% for Banco de Reservas to 4% for Banco Popular. Typical minimum amount to open an account is $500 US. When you want to withdraw funds, the bank will issue a US dollar cheque made out to you or someone else on about 24 hours notice. I can not confirm this since I have made no withdrawals. Checking accounts are not based in the DR to my knowledge.
