Need advice for guy traveling to DR

Just be yourself, its not difficult to find girls (GOOD & BAD ones) just be cool, but be careful with your money and your mind.
If you're looking for JUST fun during your visit... watch you wallet, you wont know what hit you, but you'll have a hell of a great time.
If you're looking for true romance, you'l lose your mind... Dominican girls are very lovely, sexy, and w strong family values (you got to love them). Again everything depends where you go and what are you looking for.
I'm not Dominican, but I sure love being with one of them

Cabarete on the North Coast would be a good choice. There is a nightlife and the younger crowd hangs out on the beach. Excursions to Sosua and Puerto Plata are not difficult - you just jump on a bus, a cab, a gua-gua and go where you want to go.

I've seen people partake on the beach but don't know much about the do's and don'ts. Someone else on the board will surely give you an answer here.

Girls, Girls...Everywhere

But I would leave any type of "medicinal herbs" at home. I have only seen a few partaking but I have heard that being a tourist, you could be hassled or set up, maybe not a lot of trouble, maybe only a shakedown by the police but you could be set back a lot of money. DR jails wouldn't be worth it.

1. If you seriously want to party then Santo Domingo is the place. Some of the north coast lurkers will say that it is great up there. Don't be fooled. Its like comparing Miami or NYC with DesMoines.
2. Plenty of places in the capital for whatever group you feel comforatble with.
3. While there are drugs in the DR it is not out in the open and they love to bust Gringos with Pot, Blow or anything else. You do not want to even risk it.
4. Dude ! It is the DR Just walk down the street and the women will be throwing themselves at your feet. I tell my friends before they visit that if you can't get laid there cut it off. Nobody has ever been disappointed.

Do NOT buy,use,touch any drugs down there. Even if you take a girl back to your room and she offers you something say NO! Just drink and have a lot of sex. Horny women are everywhere.

William: You sound more like a Boca Chica type of guy. That would be my suggestion for you. This way you're right next to the beach and the type of action you're looking for. By staying there you're also close enough to Santo Domingo that if you wanted culture, nice dance clubs, restaurants, etc you could just take a taxi and be there in less than 1/2 hour.

You need to be specific here! If you are coming and want a lot of SEX say so! If you want to go to a "Yuppy Bar" and try and "score" a rich chick,say so! I went to 3 "Massage Parlors"in Santo Domingo yesterday afternoon.I saw at least 6 girls who were "Drop Dead" gorgeous!!! I don't know the "Going Rate" in Boca Chica

and it is different for a "Short time",and for all night! With the peso hovering at 30 to 1,the "rates" may have changed.I have a group of friends that I see in my apartment for 3 to 400 pesos for about an hour.I would suggest talking to the other guys you see on the beach.Ask a number of girls what they want for "All Night".Offer them less than "half" and see if there are any takers.Be specific with the girls about what you want and expect them to do,BEFORE you invite them to go with you.NEVER pay any money "Up-Front"! On my last trip to sosua some American guys were telling me that the girls are now charging everyone 1500-2000 pesos for the night. I laughed and they said "really, some American guys were here last week and paid the girls 200 dollars for the night. The rates have gone up and the girls want 1500 pesos minimum." I told the guys I refuse to pay anyone more than 500 pesos and they told me that I wouldnt get laid then. Well, I had sex with a different beautiful girl everyday. Some I paid 500 pesos, some I paid 400 pesos..some I didnt pay at all. Do yourself a favor, listen to Crisco and dont be a fool. It also makes a huge difference if you learn to speak Spanish.

No danger of lots of families and the Europa is the closest place to the beach in Boca not on it mind you but the Zapata (right on the beach) which is not AI is not so happy with a load of girls. And the Europa is cheaper.

Absolutely no danger of yuppy anything there bars included. Fraidy-cat toruists from Hamaca sometimes wander out in small clusters on the main street and lookey-loo for a bit then scuttle back to the safe pink walls. The bars are loud, cheap , not so clean and yuppy free.

If you pay 1500-2000 pesos you would be foolish X 3 or X4, 200 US foolish X 12. With total newbie approach and no Spanish you may pay a bit more like RD$700 -800 or so however the peso is worth so little so if you cannot afford $25 US then you should skip it.

It is June now and the hotels are busy in July so get moving with getting a roof over your head. I assume you have a flight.

The lack of Spanish won't help but get a phrase book and/or a small dictionary (or better yet the Franklin Spanish/English Professor which at least gives you proper verb conjugation and 250,000 words. It also speaks the words.)

Never pay in advance, settle on a price first and don't pay more that that. use a pen and a piece of paper if you have to which my friend does as he refuses to learn Spanish for some insane reason.

I am speaking form experience gained by others, not me.

When in July ? I am in Boca the 1st leaving the 6th.

I stayed at the Europa last year and was perfectly satisfied. It is located about 1/2 block away from the beach and is on Duarte Street (where the street parties occur).

The Europa was filled up this year, so I went through the archives and chose the Costalunga as recommended by ricktoronto. It was an excellent choice! It is about a 5 minute walk to the beach but is much quieter at nite.

They charged me US$35 per night; the room had air conditioning, cable TV, a gas stove, refrigerator, dinette set, etc. A pretty good deal I thought. Owner Mario is a real good guy.

I've noticed that the threads tend to get closed on this site if the subject turns to sex. There is a good free message board at that specializes in information for the single male traveller in the DR. If all of the questions/discussions of prostitution, etc. can move to that board then this board can remain more wholesome.
