With Hipolito announcing that he will send 300 Dominican soldiers
to assist with the rebuilding in Iraq, does this mean that the D.R.
will now also become a new Al-Qaeda target for terrorism?

As was stated in the last released messages from (reportedly)
Osama bin Laden back in May, Al-Qaeda also named Norway
as one of their named targets, for the sole (known) reason that Norway
had just sent about 200 of their soldiers to Iraq for assistance there.

Although here, dicho no es siempre hecho, I have to believe the
Big H's announcement was made as part of the effort to land the
$1 billion in loans/ grants from the US to keep the money flowing
to the DR with everything that has happened here in the past
4 or 5 months.

Your thoughts? Will they be sent, and what may be the results?

Don't tell anyone but I heard that they plan on terrorizing the natiion by blowing up the Presidente, Brugal and Barcelo Plants. They figure that is the best way to give a screwin to the DR.

Nah...

Mmmmm...Won't go much into this, but there were other reasons why Norway is on that list. ( But why?? .....We're nice people!!! ) It's not really all that interesting, but ask me in private if you want to know the ( probable ) reasons why we're on the list.

As it is, Norway never offered to send soldiers down there, and the DR doesn't risk much by sending some soldiers down there either. The worst that can happen is that the soldiers might come under attack while there.

Another thing, is whether or not 300 Dominican soldiers can cause more harm to American plans in Iraq than 300000 Iraqi soldiers. It'll be interesting to see if the Dominican soldiers have the required global savoir faire, cultural awareness and humbleness to defuse volatile situations they will meet. Esp. when it comes to behaviour towards women. :) If some of them
have been trained by Israelis, as I saw somewhere, then they've
probably picked up a thing or two on how to deal with angry
Arabs..

Sending soldiers makes DR look good in the US, and that's all
there is to it I suppose.

I doubt they will engage in combat or anything of the sort.

They will probably be used to rebuild Iraq and/or humanitarian missions. Maybe even patrolling the streets, and that sort of activity.

The Japanese have agreed to send some of their soldiers to Iraq, so have the Poles, does that mean Japan and Poland will become new Al-Qaeda targets? Not likely. Same goes for D.R.

Doubt they will engage in combat as well, but the chances are that they might get engaged instead. People are killed every single day there, and the Danes had to kill people within the first week. The Danes came for the same reasons as the Dominicans will go for.

Patrolling, escorting and whatever expose them to risk, and the situation down there might very well get worse than it is now.

No offence to the Dominican army, but I'm not sure how well prepared they are for that task. What are they supposed to be doing? What kind of training have they been given for it? Have they been properly briefed about the country, people, culture, and situation down there? What kind of experience does the army have from previous UN peacekeeping missions?

Are they trained to perform civilian duties like policing? How
will they deal with possible civil unrest/demonstrations? Etc etc.

They can go down there with all the best intentions in the world,
but methinks it'd be somewhat naive to think everyone will welcome them and that it will not be dangerous. Good luck to
them. :)

So.. if they are sent, not much will happen in the DR, but the soldiers themselves might well be exposed to personal risk. Was this sufficiently DR related? :)

The DR is not a target. The only reason the US was is because the US government cannot keep there nose out of everybodys business.

Remember that the next time a Hurricane rips through the DR and they are crying for help!

Remember that the next time a big quake hits and they are screaming for assistance!

Remember that the next time your president runs to Washington with his palms open!

BTW Nobody thought Bali was a Target as well.

actually

Bush is technically my president. I am a US Citizen here for the summer. Sorry if I offended you but being on capital hill everyday for the past year has left a sour tasted for the US and their ethics in my mouth. It was just my two cents.

Offended? I don't think that is possible.

The actions of the US gov leaves a sour taste in my mouth as well, many times. But I doubt we have it for the same reasons!

To get this thread back on track...

If anybody thinks that the DR is immune from terrorism they have a lot to learn.

There are many members and sympathizers of various Terrorist Organizations right now in the DR.
I can also tell you stories of Espionage and intrigue.

Will Al-queda Attack the DR? Odds are no, but there are many other groups out there walking among you. Some are Domestic some international.

Some outside groups to look out for:

Anti-Aristide Haitian Groups
Puerto Rican Sepaeratists
ETA
All of the Above are active in the DR.

Also Watch out for Venezuela. Things are going to heat up again so expect some reprisals in the DR.

Lets not forget narco-terrorism. Today it is just some Kidnappings tommorow who knows whats next.

That brings us to Domestic terrorism. With Hippo and the PRD doing their worst and no hope in sight do you think that it will just stop with some web-sites being hacked?
