I have a request for anyone coming to Dominican Republic and getting their shoes shined. Alot of people give the boys American change...quarters, dimes and nickles. The cambio places will not change coins. So these kids have money that is usless to them. They don't even know the valus of the change they have,
I have been changing the coins for them but I really don't need all the coins but I feel sorry for them. I can't change anymore. I need my pesos.
So heres my suggestioon to the tourists. Either give the kid a dollar...paper money, or pesos. That way they can use the money instead of just being confused. Alos you'll be helping me out becasuse I can't take anymore coins.I'll be overweight when I take it all to USA when I go there on vacation!! jejej

Thanks for the info!

Thanks Jan!
I never would have realized this and I'm sure I made that error when I was down there.
Tips like this really help ppl to be better tourists, also tips like what is a decent tip for different serving ppl. / tour ppl.?
What are appreciated gifts by different folks, ie:house keeping staff etc.?
