In ancient times grain was a measure of value and people used it in exchange for good and services, so why not platanos? ... we could be giving Hippo some ideas on how to increase the money supply. Can you imagine, in no time there would not be enough platanos to go around .
I can hear it now. His baldness declares platinos legal tender which instantly makes all of the camposinos fabulously wealthy by virtue of the huge, now monetary, reserves of platinos on their fincas. Due to the oversupply of platinos however runaway inflation takes over. The exhange rate falls to something like 100,000 platinos to a bottle of Presidente. Buying groceries then requires more than 1000 burros just to carry enough platinos to buy rice and beans. So, an emergency meeting is called to find a solution. El Hippo calls out the armed forces are to burn all the remaining platinos trees calling it a short term fiscal correction. The resulting ash cloud keeps any new platinos from growing for the next two years however and the EU steps in with a short term injection of 8b platinos to stabilize the economy.
