The "chance of P.M. rain"

I've noticed recently (on the DR1 weather page) that "a chance of p.m. showers/rain" has been a regular part of the Puerto Plata area forecast. Has it actually been raining much in the afternoon/evenings recently, or are these "chances" simply the work of pessimistic meteorologists?????

The weather has been good. But this is the tropics, so there could always be a rain shower, usually in the afternoon. Note the showers are 10 minute ones.

Hola, just got back from 3 weeks in the DR, Puerto Plata area in specific. It rained ONCE for like two hours, otherwise absolutely beautiful all the time! Like DR One said, if it rains, it usually lasts 10 minutes and you would never know it happened!

Just returned from five weeks in Sosua(near Puerto Plata). About the 30th of March it rained heavily for several hours. Around this time it also rained(very heavily) several times in the evening and overnight.Since about April 4th there was no rain to talk about, sunny with some cloud. The idea of 10 minute rainfall is a myth. Six years ago, in the same area during March, it rained almost constantly for five days, without a hint of blue sky. In the past November and December it also rained a lot.

The Rain in Spain Falls Mainly....

>>>"The idea of 10 minute rainfall is a myth."<<< Mike, the Dominican Rep. is a large island with diverse terrain, from rain forest to a desert that may go 2 or 3 years with only a little rain.
