Top Air leased one YAK-40, they will use it for flights SDQ PAP SDQ and later they plan to operate flights to Venezuela. YAK-40 has a range of 3 000 KMs, it has 32 seats. Another YAK-40 is coming in 2 months.

Lately this year TOP AIR plans to add YAK-42 with capacity of 120 pax.

YAKs will be operated by pilots from Venezuela.

So, Top Air is the only airline in Dom Rep that uses russian planes.

Two definitions:

YAK - South American mammal/packaderm often seen at high elevations. Eats remarkably large loads of grass. Does not fly well.

YAK - Abbreviation for "Yakolev" aircraft design bureau of former Soviet Union. Often seen at high elevations. Eats remarkably large loads of fuel. Does not fly well.
