Los Alcorrizos - any advice? - is that a good place to stay?

My new map shows a few little towns. One is named "Los Alcorrizos" the others in the area are so small that they don't have names on the maps i bought here in California. Anyway that looks like where I want to stay for the week. Does anyone know that area?
Can you offer any advice...
Thanks, K:bunny:

I think that is "Los Alcarrizos" and

I would not stay there, but some of the missionaries that have worked there can point you in the right direction, I am sure.

Dare we ask why on earth you want to stay in that area??

Good luck, since I am sure you can find lodging there, and there are good folks all over this place...You'll see.

sure you can ask

Missionaries, Ok, I'll try that. Do they have e-mial?

Not only can you ask, but i'll tell you. I get to come for the Pan Am games. I'm a Massage therapy specialist, that's a massage person with lots of extra education. I look on it as a way to take more sports medicine classes. Anyway, I volunteered so i can help anyone and everyone. I'm going because my client is competing with her horse. There will be 4 of my regular clients and 3 sometimes clients there. The directions we have are 18 km out on Duarte Hwy and turn where the powerlines cross the Hwy. Palmarejo Equestrian center.

I have a wonderful list of things i want to see, and buy. But spending several extra hours every day on many guaguas is not on it.

My list includes odd things. Like; seeing Larimar in the rock formations. A pinon walking stick or two. Tree frogs, lizards, bugs, watching Oxen if any. Eating every kind of fried sweet potato i can find and Agave. I'm a country gal and a hippy, what more can i say?
Oh, I was an Agriculture major, then an Animal Health Technichian, then a Microbiologist, then a massage therapist. [I miss spellcheck] My card reads "Effective Muscle Therapy, that Feels Great" and I try to live up to it every day. Many of my clients have 4 legs and bite. I have a license plate holder reads "I'm not wierd i'm gifted" but i don't have it on my car, an '85 Toyota truck... and i think of my work at horse barns as my own brand of sheltered workshop.
Thanks, k ;)

I think what you refer to is Los Alcarrizos, next barrio after you pass Herrera. I know the area very well. It's not for tourists.
Try to find a hotel close to Stdgo. If you're going to a ranch or high scale property in Los Alcarrizos, then is fine. If you didn't make reservacions in a good hotel it'll be difficult. Good luck.
I hope your client win a medal.

OK so it's a bad area, what are my choices?

Yep, it is Los Alcorrizos. Sorry tiny print and aging eyes.
Thanks ya'all,

HB - I respect your advice. If it is too bad for HB, I should rethink this. But JIC, how do I contact Missionaries? Walk in to the center of town and ask?

Josue Collado - I'm trying to avoid XS transit time. STDGO, it may be too far, we are told it is an hour by taxi. Much more by guaguas, I assume. Would horse ranch people, be offended if i walked in and asked to rent a spare room or servants quarters? [I probably would be uneasy with that here in LA.]

Everyone -
Should i rethink this?
Are there better areas, that are still close to where i need to be 1-4 times a day?
Are there better areas out past Los Alcorrizos?

Ya'all a broom closet would be fine. I'm not coming for the accomodations, they have hotel rooms in LA. I learned to travel from my Father who swapped well drilling and whiskey still fixing with the hillbillies i knew. And my Mother who would wait in the car for 3 days while he hiked in to check a mine. [And My own tiny horse ranch does not have airconditioning, niether does the 10 ton Crawler I use to move dirt.] I'm coming for the island especially the countryside. The Pan Am games are just the excuse.

Keep talking, i'm listening and planning, Thanks, K

Yep, they do, I don't

Yep, but They needed fancier diggs than i do. And they have 4 generations of family coming with them. I'm short on money and not so picky.

Safe from knives and rapists would be nice. Purse snatchers I can deal with. I'm used to LA where there are good areas close to bad ones.

What else is close?

Just a note about the Larimar!!

If you want to see it in actual rock formations I hope you're a scuba diver. My understanding is that it is only found beneath the sea surrounding the island.
Good luck on finding a place to stay!

Larimar and Luck

Thank you, with you wishing me "Good Luck" [and all the good DR1-ers advice] I'm sure I will find both a room and some larimar to look at. Maybe in a shop or museum instead of 'a natural'
Thanks, k
p.s. Still taking advice on lodging options out Duarte hwy 18 km or beyond.

Thanks Ya' all [southern-ism for everyone, very potite]

Decided on spending my first night at a hotel on Arroyo Hondo,
could not hear the price or the name...
Then spending my last night near the airport, maybe the place HB mentioned.
In between, well I'll learn a thing or two.

Thanks everyone, it is your help that has allowed me to cram as much as possible into a little time! 48 hours and counting.
bye for now. -K

Alright, I am a missionary and I live fairly close to Los Alcarrizos although I don't work there. In my opion, all advice on Los Alcarrizos has been on target. Unfortunately, I am unaware of any good places to stay on this end of the city. I think I have passed a new tiny hotel near the northwest corner of the Jardin Botanico on Avenida Republica de Colombia in Arroyo Hondo. I also have a missionary friend who lives near the horse venue, but they have never taken outside boarders. Frankly, I am not sure there is a good solution other than getting a hotel in the city. There are good ones about 30-45 minutes away.
