I have a Dominican freind in POP who lost thier car, it was stolen from right in front of thier house during one of those temporary black outs. I heard hints that theft is on the rise due to the economic situation. I heard another friend from US New York State that now lives in Sosua. He said he had an ongoing problem with theft in his house, until he figured out the paid security guards were behind it, once he got rid of them the thevery stopped. Now he only keeps one maid that the family has known thier family for a long time, and there have been no problems. ANy stories. . . . I guess I should add a disclaimer to this that I love the DR in general and have personally never had any problems beyond theft from extended family or (a long long time ago) item theft from baggage when I arrived, which has never happened since. I read Pib refering to a breakin at her house a while ago, and this got me thinking to ask this question.
