As of today we have a new open Air disco, anybody familiar with Sosua its where the Canoa Restaurant used to be.
I live with my Family less then 100 Yards away
It is so loud in our House that we have to yell at each other so we can be heard
Are there not Laws against this?

If you're Dominican, should be no problem having them shut down. Gringo?? Well good luck. You could try the office of turismo in Plaza Enrique Hauser or our Sindico. Probably no results in either case. I heard the owner a/o operator is the same person who had the car wash in Sosua.

Contact the Ministry of Environment in Santo Domingo. They have a department that deals with noise pollution and can get this place to lower the noise.

It's about 1/2 a block up from City Hall street towards the casino. Just drove by and "You should see the speakers" They make High Caribe's equipment look like miniatures.

Yes it is. I just talked to a Dominican friend of mine who lives nearby and I suggested people get together with a petition (Gringos "Shit I hate that word but I can't spell foreigners") and especially Dominicans. Take it to the Sindico, Turismo and Salud publica. Good luck.

Musica tipica

Everytime I pass there, I hear the music which is not excactly my taste, but I don't think they play it louder than in any other tipical dominican bar.
Yesterday I saw two policemen having a beer there and it would surprise me if that wasn't on the house. Good luck with your complaints.

I would certainly not want to have to listen to bachata all day, but since your complaining about the noise: Are you possibly over 50?
You're in Sosua Sol. Why doesn't the owner take any action if it
's really so loud?

Am I complaining?

I came to this Board to seek Advice not to complain or be rebuked. Over 50? What does that have to do with Noise Pollution? I think that driving by once or twice a Day and living with it for 17 hours a Day is a bit different.
Yes 17 Hours. They stopped at 3 ,30 am last night and cranked up the Speakers at 8,30 am. I went there and it was just a couple People cleaning up.
Go there now at 9 30 pm and tell me it's just like any other Dominican Bar.
Over 10 Years is in this Country, never anything like this.

If I were you I'd be just as furious. Have you and your neighbors tried to speak directly to the owner? Sounds like "official" channels might be difficult, but perhaps he's a reasonable person. He might not even be aware of what's going on there. At any rate - no one should make light of your problem! - D

I agree with you diego. You shouldn't have to put up with it--regardless of your age. (and what the hell does that have to do with it anyway? Do people below 50 not complain if they can't get to sleep until after 3 am?)

I would complain if I lived next to a "typical Dominican bar", too.

There are law that protect you from noise problems and you should actively protest. I assume your neighbors feel the same way; they should be visible in the protest, too, not just sit back and let you carry the ball.

I heard recently of some people who went to the police and signed a complaint about the loud noise in the night of a disco. That seemed to have the desired effect. Contact all the people recommended in this thread, and do it with others if you possibly can.

If it were me, I'd be upset enough and mad enough to want the help of an attorney if I didn't seem to be getting the desired results on my own.

The local police and tourism authorities usually take care of this on an informal basis. Otherwise, a formal complaint should be filed with the Fiscal de Medio Ambiente (District Attorney for Environmental Matters) in Puerto Plata.
