we will be traveling to DR in oct. staying at Secrets. can anyone give me any info on shopping? I've read that there is a bus trip to Higuey but there isn't anything there. How about Santo Domingo? Any bus from the hotel there? Also is there a ferry we can take to PR? I probably won't get bored at the resort but we definitely want to do some sight-seeing and shopping. First of all, Secrets is the last in the chain of Hotels in Punta Cana, about an hour or so from the airport. There is not much in Higuey to see, a beautiful church, some barrios etc. more than 40 minutes drive.
Santo Domingo is over 4 hours by taxi one way, so there goes a while day to see the history of the DR.
I suggest you take the Bavaro Runners or Outback Safari and see the rural life in the DR, a very interesting day trip.
The closest shopping is at Plaza Bavaro about a half hours taxi drive from Secrets.

and Cortecito is the village, plaza bavaro, keno is a no win situation at any casino in PC

thanks again to everyone that gave me info on Secrets and Punta Cana, it helped alot. I just retured this evening. Evrything about my trip was great, except for that aweful ride in from the airport. The ride back wasn't bad because they took a different route. The food was great, only 1 time we had to wait 45 minutes. That was at the Continental Restaurant. Pool was beautiful and there didn't seem to be many people there, not crowded at all. We went on the Outback Safari with Sammy, excellent. Rooms were clean, room service good, the jacuzzi could of been a little bigger though. Oh to all that said I would need a heavy duty bug spray, it might have been the time of year you were there, because the only bug I saw, which wasn't even that often was a fly. Nothing else. Everyone was kind and friendly. Oh there was a big problem, no ATM machines. In the advertisement I could swear they said ATM. Thankgod I took just enough out before I left. Hint to anyone that is going. So everything was great, my suggestion to anyone that is thinking of going to Ounta Cana, go to Secrets. Don't worry about the bumpy 1 hour ride, you'll get over it.

Thanks for all of your info. I had a couple questions about the pool. I know there is a pool bar, but is it one of those that you can actually sit at while in the pool? If so, was there usually people hanging out there and having a good time?
