Later this month, the 26th, I have three 'old' friends coming in to country. Two of them are former neighbors from back in grammar school days. Two of them are college mates. All are over 60 or 63, and in good health. Two of them have never been in the DR before.

My problem: What to do with them?

My thinking:
1) A day or two in Santiago area with trip to Jarabacoa for golf, and maybe the Salto de Jimenoa
2) A day + night + day at Punta Ruc?a-lots of good single malt, fried fish, probably with a trip to see DD.
3) A day or two on the North Shore. More single malt and golf.

Or am I being too conservative?

There are limiting factors: RRA is widowed less than a year and has always been uptight-he's a lawyer. Still wears Brooks Brother suits (and has for 55 years) and chairs museum committees. He's been all over the world for his Fortune 500 corporation.
DPR is hell on wheels. He and I have done some crazy stuff. He has been here and so has his daughter. Married to the same person forever. Grandaddy to two little girls.
BC is a rotund computer genius who retired at 53. A member of our Zeta Omega Omega house at university, this guy went into computers in the early 60s!!! You can guess the rest...also a hell raiser-at least back then. Divorced.

Any and all ideas are welcome, seriously.

Do ya think they'd like to play golf and drink beer? Ha Ha.
You know people on vacation do like to let their hair down.
All the things you take for granted (la vida cotidienna) would be considered exotic to these businessmen-amigos.
Who would imagine you could see cows without a herder walking themselves home down the main road, holding up traffic?
Who would imagine you could see chickens living near the house?
Eating a kipe caliente with a cold one...
Sancocho for noon meal on a Thursday.
Touring a cigar factory.
Getting their shoes shined by a limpiabotas.
Checking out the purchase of 2 cigarettes at a colmado.
Eating dulce de leche.
Concon.
Sitting on the beach relaxing for a while. Sosua comes to mind.
A Machanta.
A game of casino.
A cock fight.
REAL salsa dancing.
One of Robert's SDQ tours.
Swimming with dolphins.
Horseback riding.
Check out Julia Alvarez' organic coffee farm...
El monumento. Get out of the car and feel the place.
Like Bruce Lee said, "don't think, feeeeeeel."
Museums, La Isabela, the cable car.
Some of the EQ damage...
In summary, the best of what the DR offers, and what you might never experience at home.
Have a blast with your past...

Hillbilly seem to have the whole trip figured out to the last detail. I would suggest throwing in 3 chicas to add the 5th star to their ideal vacation. Let me know if you need a phone number of a prefessional. I can call carlos he seem to know alot of what goes on in this department.

LOL

I was going to suggest having AZB "fix" these guys up, but he beat me to the punch. I'm fairly straight laced, but if I were coming down there for a visit, I would hope to get to see some of that famous dominican night life, if you know what I mean. Yes, I would want to get laid! LOL Sorry, HB. Just giving you another point of view.

I think you should at least take them to Estadio Cibao and have them check out at least a practice since they will be there a little early for the regular season.

Last time I had a group of my parents friend in that age group I took them to Hache and Bellon with a grande finish having riki takis at the monument and they were in heaven. (Just to note these people were upper crust retirees with more in their american bank account than I will ever see in pesos)

HB what ever you do they will enjoy - you have led many of the stray foreigners in the right directions to enjoy their own vacations, I know what ever you do with the old chums will be alot of great fun.

Please let us know how it goes.

If dolphin riding.... is on the itinerary, best get on with it. The NY Times today had a p3 article slam dunking water parks in the Caribbean/Mexico [DR not mentioned] who do that.

Best, P

Many Thanks

"Who would imagine you could see cows without a herder walking themselves home down the main road, holding up traffic?"

Mary: Thanks. that one did blow the mind of my friend who has been here before!!..

Great suggestions and pretty much what I expected to get. Yes Jojocho, that museus (opening this afternoon at 5 p.m.) is going to really be a must see...

AZB, these people would not be interested in "that" ..too conservative, but you never know........

Camp David is for sure...

As for Jarabacoa over Playa Grande, #1 reason? Closer and shorter and they aren;t that good as golfers....

Much?simas gracias....many many thanks.

And if anyone has anything to add, please do!

HB, getting happy...

HillBilly..

Play a round of golf to catch up on the times and take them sight seeing to see the pretty things the DR has to offer. How about something to do with the Ocean..like deep sea fishing or sailing..Relax and see the sights type thing.
Your friends have traveled enough to want to spend time with you enjoying what you enjoy I am sure..If they like to go out at night do that..but be mindful of the long time married guy and the widow..not to make them uncomfortable..
What ever you do have a blast..It is always nice to visit with your friends who travel so far to be in your company!

If they like meat...

Take them to Cacique, Moncion for the best chivo guisado in the world.

Jpjocho, you jest!

Just like a "capitale?o" ...!!!!

Everyone knows that the best "chivo guisado" is to be found in Hato Nuevo or Villa Lobos...on the Northwest Line!! Or as a last resort, Bar Sandra in Leguna Salada.

However, the suggestion is most welcome, and I do hope to get them up there to our land and lake!!

BTW, nice article on your "little" brother in the Ritmo Social this past Saturday!!

HB, grinnin' like a fool....
