Looks like my friends and I are going to be heading down to Puerto Plata at the end of January (exact dates to be determined).
We're staying at the Paradise Beach Hotel and Casino and are looking forward to a relaxing and fun getaway.
Before you even go there: we decided on an all-inclusive vacation on purpose. We still intend to look around, meet the locals, explore, eat at fine Dominican restaurants and all that (not every AI traveller is close-minded; many just want a hassle-free vacation).
Having said all that, we've never been to Puerto Plata before and could use some tips - let's say, your top three - on where to eat, where to shop, where to get crazy at night, and just general must-sees.
I'm also curious how busy late January is, in terms of tourism. Seems to me that January is a slow month for tropical getaways, which makes no sense to me - what better time to get away than when the snow is flying and the mercury is dropping?! I enjoy meeting travellers from all over and I have found in previous years that most travellers in January are from Canada. Not that there's anything wrong with that...
So... tell me what you can. I'd greatly appreciate it!
...you can spare the sanky jokes.
Thanks!
