DR1 called Migration and the fee for 2-/2 years is RD$500, the max is RD$850.

I personally know many people that have overstayed and never ever had a problem paying. I did it myself many times before I had my Cedula.

You do not need to pay the immigration officer directly, if you do, then he/she is looking for a bribe. They will or should send you to the "tax office" to pay the fine and then come back to the line to pass through immigration.

Thank you to DR1 for getting to the bottom of this. I apologize if my previous posting seemed sensational but it was a legitamite question as it actually happened. Might have been nice to receive an email as to why my previous posts were deleted instead of the flaming message~!

If you have time and are in Santo Domingo, you can also pay the fine at the Migration Department that is located on the Malec?n in the Centro de los Heroes, next door to the Post Office (INPOSDOM) and the Agua y Luz Theater.
