Today's DR1 news refers to the giant overhead signs on Avenida Duarte as "eyesores". But are they really? It seems to me that some areas, like Time Square or Picadilly Circus, benefit from the garishness. To me, La Duarte would appear desnudo without its huge overhanging signs. They have been there seemingly forever and have become a part of the landscape.
In addition, the Trujillo-era deco architecture that once dominated La Duarte is now all but completely gone - replaced by big box buildings. So removing the signs will not exactly reveal an architectural treat.
