powder sold to Dominicans for years as a remedy for everything from body odor to foot fungus is highly poisonous, health officials warned yesterday, and New York City is trying to persuade bot?nicas, the herbal medicine shops that cater to Hispanic communities, to stop selling it.

The substance, litargirio, contains high levels of lead, which can cause irreversible brain damage when it enters the bloodstream.

You have just explained "EVERYTHING"!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought it was the "platanos",or fetal alcohol syndrome! But turns out its LEAD!!!!

.... be careful with those cheap deodorants sold in the d.r. as well.....some have also been known to contain lead.
