I am going to Breezes in Punta Cana for a week in November. I want to do some surf fishing. Can anyone tell me what to use for bait, type of tackel to use and what kind of fish to expect? I would love to catch some baracuda. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Your handle

What ever possessed you to use wud as a handle, I have been on the board for a long time, hlywud has been synomously known as the "wud" by many of the DR1 gang.
Do not need the confusion.

And as for surf fishing you will catch some small yellowtails, snappers and the like but no cuda's.

Sorry about the confusion. My nickname is Woody. I am taking my trip in 1 week and after I post a report on my return I will be gone from the site for a while. So it will be short term.

Thanks for the info. Any idea how to catch the fish you mentioned?

Wud.

Baracuda are plentiful in the Punta Cana area. What type of Fishing will you be doing? I am assuming you will be using spinning tackle. For this type nothing beats tube lures. 6 to 12 inches long. Also any type of silver baitfish lure works well and also attarck other species. Mirro-O-lures work great for this. Don't forget wire leaders!!! Barracuda love fast retrieves. The faster the better. Don't be surprised if you catch the odd bonito or ceral mackeral.
Just expect to attract a crowd while fishing. Dominican like to watch! Expect to be heckled if you catch and release.

I never caught any cuda or bonito's, but some small mackeral, yellowtails, red snappers, a grouper or two but next time I will try larger lures, and yes do not forget the steel leaders.
I always gave my catch away to the resort staff, except once on a deep sea charter when I took a small dorado and released, they were pissed off to say the least. Here is a sample of last years deep sea charter, a nice one.

what rods would one use

im going to punta cana from march 25 to feb3, staying at the Bavaro Beach Resort, is the fishing good in front of the resort.

Also i was wondering where one could rent a small fishing boat with a guide, im just looking for small lite tackle fishing, any villages i should check out, id rather give the money to locals in need i plan to bring some teloscopic rods and some 5 foot 2 peice rods, with spin cast and baitcaster reels, older ones i hope to leave behind when i leave, any ideas would be apreciated.
