Not being a golfer, I have been asked how many/which ones are GOOD courses within about 1 hour of POP. They should be the same or better than Playa Dorado. Thanks for you help

Los Aromas in Santiago- as good as Playa Dorado but no water or beach, also 1/2 the price. Playa Grande, twice the price BUT- worth it, would be beyond the reach in the US green fess would be upwards of $300US. Nice afternoon rounds- 9 holers in Costamber and Caberete for $10US each- IF they are in better shape than they have been in the last 2 yrs. That's about it on the North Coast. You could go play a really nice 9 holer in Jarabacoa but would take 1 1/2 hr to get there.

Except that Santiago--Las Aromas-- is in better shape than it has been in , possibly, ever!....
And Playa Grande has to be one of the most magnificent courses on the face of the earth. Awe inspiring vistas, puckering-up tee boxes, huge greens, distracting gardens, great 19th Hole, excellent caddies. If whales cavorting in the distance upset your game, don't go there in January or February....
Jarabacoa is only 9 holes but they are very entertaining, no boreing holes. Elevated greens, hidden greens, "thread the needle" tee shots, make it very interesting to play. Dirt cheap is another positive, as is the sale of great coffee, grown in the region, at the little Pro Shop.

Playa Grande is about one and a half hours east of Puerto Plata near Rio San Juan. Incredible views and a great course , don't get to close to the edge of the cliffs. You can buy green fees package including transportation from Victor at the Playa Dorada Golf Course.
