Another question from the wife here.......
She was wondering, as we are staying in the Playa Dorado complex, and there are other resorts with-in it, are we permitted to go to the other resorts while there?
Once again, any information would be greatly appreciated.

Playa Dorada is the name of the resort complex, which is home to around 14 hotels. All of the hotels are AI. Whichever hotel you are at you will be fitted with a plastic wrist band when you check in, the colour/design of which is unique to your hotel. This therefore identifies you as their guest, and enables you to enjoy all of their facilities.

You are not permitted to go into the other hotels to take advantage of their facilities unless you purchase a "day pass". I enquired about this a the Gran Ventana last summer for a friend who was staying at the Fun Royale, and the cost then was something like RD$600 (if memory serves me right). She could only enter the hotel after 10am and had to leave no later than 6pm.

If you simply want to look around a hotel perhaps with a view to making a future booking, I am sure that would be possible if you explain to the security guard on duty. He would probably be able to arrange for someone to escort you, which is the only way you would get in.

Which hotel will you be at, and when will you be there?

You can go to the other resorts' casinos and some of the discos.
If you simply want to have a look around, I'm sure a tour would be easy to arrange.
The AI food and drinks are not interchangeable.
You can't go party in someone's room at another resort, as far as I could tell.
They don't want to have to check each person's wrist band every time someone gets something to eat or drink.
I've stayed at Jack Tar twice and they are very strict with the security.
I will be at the Paradise next week and I would assume it is the same policy there.

Resort Hopping

We are going to be there on January , 2004.

Another question would be...
Is it possible to upgrade to another resort with-in the complex while you are there, or would this be unheard of?

We are currently booked into the Hoteteur Dorado, because of the great deal that was offerred here in Canada, and also with the reviews that were posted about the entertainment team there, with Danny Boy and Scooby doo.

What other resorts are located with-in this complex?

I've never heard of anyone doing this, and I'm not sure whether it would be possible. I would imagine that the majority of the hotels would be in competition with each other. Although they are all in the same gated complex they do not all belong to the same company.

I do know there are 2 hotels - the Victoria and the Gran Ventana - which are owned by the same people, I would hazard a guess that if you were booked into the Victoria it may be possible to "upgrade" to the Gran Ventana, but I don't know for sure.

The Fun Royale and the Fun Tropical are also owned/run by one company.

Resort Hopping

Dominican Babe......

Thanks for the advice......
We have since realized that in fact we will not be able to travel from resort to resrot, but after reading your post we decided to see if the Hoteteur chain owned any other resorts with-in the complex, and in fact they do!
So I e mailed them.
Hopefully they return the e mail, and then I will post if we can at least go between the two.
Thanks again
Cheers

scoobsters trip

hi there,i can only speak for scoobster as he hasnt replied tp you yet.
its redwedding here,we were on our honeymoon at the Dorada Club Resort, when a lady with her 2 kids ask us were the bathroom was.we saw her in passing that day and spent the nights partying with them for the rest of the stay.Little did i know that i had spoke to Scoobster on this site and it wasnt until a few night into the trip,thatDR1.COM was mentioned.

My ears pricked up and ask him if he remembered answering to Redwedding ,yes was his reply.
We live in London U.K and i never dreamt in a million years that the chances of bumping into someone that i had spoken to on this site ,would be within 2 inches of each other without arranging it first.
We had a great time and we speak every night on the net .

Not only did we have fun with the locals, went to dinner round ones house(if you get the chance you must do this,it was priceless)acted like 10yr olds again, climbing waterfalls etc,we made good friends with DR1.COM user.
Without this site,we never would have met.

We plan to go to Canada this year or next ,to see our new friends.

THANK YOU DOMINICAN REPUBLIC FOR A GREAT HONEYMOON.
