Its now Friday. Supposedly the end of civilisation as we know it if the news this week is anything to go by because as from today, we will be plunged in to darkness and won't see grid power again for weeks. Albeit, DR1 news today says the government has made some interim payments for more fuel.

Perhaps we can run a sticky post so we can see the effects of the power problem across the country and so we can see if the interim payments have any effect.

But I would like to know do you have power tonight?

Here in Juan Dolio the lights are still on but I keep thinking they may go off any moment!

IT'S OFF! Interesting Idea. I like it!

How about we post when power goes on and off at the local homestead, by editing our original posts. I'll go first, like this:

XANADU CITY between Cabarete & Sosua

Yes, we have electricity in Sosua since almost 8 hours continously, and it's midnight.
8 hours seems almost like a record these days.

Wow!

Just stepped out to the pool in the rain and it's all DARK! There are a few lights up toward Cabarete, but nothing from there to Sosua. Normally we see lights from the resorts at Perla Marina, Las Brisas, Sea Horse Ranch, Lomas Mironsas. All are dark at the momtn. Not a single bulb! Wonder what's up?

We've been down here since 2PM. As I type my generator just died, out of gas. On batteries. I will need to let it cool for an hour, add gas, and start it up again. What fun.

Top half still out at 11pm

I was down in zona colonial tonight and there were parts lit, but much of it west and north were not.

In de la sanchez on the Malecon I came home to "naylu" then it came on for 30 seconds, went back off, then on again until 9.

I left, came back at 2 and by the water in the fridge I'd say it's been on for a couple hours.

We had power for the latter half of yesterday, out at 12, back on by 3 am.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but if I can just have a fan at night I'm surprisingly satisfied.

Damn, I'm nearly Dominican!

I talked to a friend tonight and I said "if we have power on Sunday, come over and watch football". He started laughing and said that's really a funny statement.

I guess it is when you really think about it.

Go Patriots!!!

Update in Puerto Plata, Torre Alta

So far today we have had power for a whopping eight hours. That's the most Power we have had in a row. So far this past week we've only had power for four hours out of the day. The Trace inversor I have bought that runs power for me needs to be recharged at least fourteen hours. I have twelve batteries it's a large Trace Unit. So I'm running on bare minimum power. As much as that machine cost it was certainly worth it. It runs my refrigerator, which is pretty important. I can't watch television as the TV draws too much power.

I have not had a normal shower in two weeks because the power is always off when I need to take my shower. So I am praying this morning that the power will stay on so the water pump can work. It would be a real luxury to have a normal shower.

Let's hope that the government paying the power companies will give us at least ten hours a day of power.

Lights 14 & 15 Nov Santiago---My hillbilly hovel

Yesterday, Friday, we were blessed with electricity from about 9 a.m. until 8 ish in the evening. Came back at midnight and went off at 6 ish this morning and came back a few minutes later!!

Still on.....

Our power bill came in about $4,000 less than last month but that is way too much for 1/3 the electricity we received compared to former months. I spent over $6,000 of oil and gasoline for the generator.

Manzanillo; the end of infinity!

Friday:

Luz on all day, except for a 2-hr period for routine mx on the big plant.

Saturday:

Luz on for all day today. Might go off tonite at sundown, this being a day off for operators. Expect same for Sunday.

Will advise.

Very unusual for this part of the world to not have luz 24/7 since installation of plants begining of year.
Gracios A Dios!!
Only a few more affluent have plantas. I have a 10KW diesel and supply for 3 houses when luz off.

Will update as appropriate.
