These are some PJT?s packaging tips to pass along for the Holiday Season, especially if you want your or someone?s gifts to arrive in the D.R.on time and secure. There is no guarantee implied, there will always be exceptions.

Be redundant in your packaging in order to protect it and make sure it arrives to where it is intended in the condition it was shipped with a minimum of delay. Redundancies are the little extra safeguards that may be a bother to you now when preparing a shipment. The payoff is: it gets to destination on or before time, makes someone happy, you are less likely to be chasing a delayed shipment, you will not have to file a claim for a lost or damaged shipment, you will not have to eat the costs of an uninsured or underinsured lost or damaged shipment, you will not have to understand nobody gives a damn about your shipment other than you.

You are redundant when you use the correct package and interior packaging, a corrugated carton is the norm with bubble pack or similar for interior protection of contents. Use ?packaging tape? to seal the package. You are redundant when you address you package in a least two locations with an indelible ink marker or typed ?shipping labels?. (do not place address lines or labels over tape, when the tape is removed for carton inspection ? off comes the address.) If one address becomes obscured in transit there is a back up. You are redundant when you make a packing list of the enclosed contents; noting whom is the shipper/address + phone, receiver/address + phone, quantity of articles, description, and value, then summarized the quantity and value. Place two copies of the list in the package, one at top and one at the bottom of the carton. The list, type written is best, will help facilitate a faster customs clearance. No list equals the contents of the carton will be removed for classification, delaying its movement, and hazarding it to pilferage.

HINTS:

Make sure the address is correct.

[SHIP with enough reasonable advance time] to make sure the package arrives at destination before or on time, even with transit delays, do not rely on the shipping company promises. Getting tight for Christmas, have some leeway with Three Kings Day.

SELECT the carrier, UPS, FedEX, DHL, ?postal?, EPS, or other; one that best suits your service need and bankroll.

ADVISE not to ship in oversize or overweight packages, extra transport cost and handling involved, may delay shipment. What is oversized/overweight: Anything larger than a carton for the kitchen sink and greater than 70 lbs or 31 kilos

DO NOT over-pack, that is, enclose too many articles that exceed the capacity of a carton. Reason, shipping company may not accept package. It will burst and once burst it will never be repackaged properly, articles may be lost of damaged.

DO NOT gift wrap the contents, customs wants to see what is being transported, they will remove the wrapping to examine articles. Articles in bubble packages are ideal to ship, the article can be seen without being tampered with.

DO NOT put all same eggs in one basket, sort of one box of pink eggs for grandma ? one box of blue eggs for grandpa routine. Disperse the gifts, put some pink eggs and blue eggs in both boxes. If one box gets lost or damaged, at least the other box will have eggs for grandma and grandpa, nobody gets stiffed.

DO NOT wrap a carton in paper, in transit it will be torn or ripped off removing all evidence of origin or destination labeling. Your loss somebody else?s gain.

DO NOT ship items of high value unless insured. ? it speaks for itself.

Again, make sure the address is correct.

Enjoy you holidays and I hope you get what?s coming to you.

Regards, PJT

The above suggestion is one I'd make sure I follow this year, my package got lost last year.

Here is my Tip!

No packaging,no weight limit,no duty, and it is the "One Thing" all Dominicans want!

They can then buy whatever they want here!
Or pay some "bills"!

No! never mind that part!

They can buy whatever they want, if they have it here. Then, what about the sentimental gifts, the ones from the heart? Bet, you can be expecting a package from New England apart from the "One Thing" you would like. Regards, PJT
