New forum rules?

Sorry if I come across a little confused in this post but after reading "Cat's out of the bag", my head is spinning!!
I would have just posted under that particular thread but because I am considered a "newbie", I didn't want to ruffle any feathers and continue to hijack the thread although I see the gold and silver posters did just that!
I try hard to play by the rules, I do not ask questions unless I feel that the responses may help others (such as Viva vs Tangerine).
I try to offer insight only on what I have experienced while I was living in the DR (yes - I am a newbie who actually has experienced the DR and all its glory).
Bushbaby has threatened that if I ever leave this board he will hound me forever and considering that he has lived there for 11 years and that we used to work together - I take that as a great compliment. He has even sent people my way so that I may help them out.
So my first question is - does someone like me get blackballed from DR1 because I am not silver or gold or that I don't contribute very often (basically because a lot of the others have already coverd the points that I would have made and why have a lot of repeat answers) I could care less what my status is and don't just post to up my numbers and therefore get to a different level!
I have been using the DR1 website for years now - mainly before to catch up on the news and occasionally to read a message or two - only when I felt that I had the answer to a certain question did I feel compelled to add my two cents.
I agree wholeheartedly that some of the posters have nothing of any value to add, or they start a post to get attention, or that some just like to antangonize, but I read and take it all with a grain of salt. There are others that are just plain full of nonsense and to them I just shake my head and am glad I have a little more intellect than them - but at the same time feel that they are wasting peoples time.
So now my second question is how will you sort out the persons that you want to continue using DR1 - you mentioned a pay per use in US $ - (thank god the US dollar is low right now for us Canadians!) but will that really weed out persons - just because they are not good posters doesn't mean they don't have healthy bank accounts!
Please explain how the new rules will affect us so that I and probably many others can understand. There are plenty of other message boards out there pertaining to the DR but none that really compare to this one and I for one would still like to be involved.
Sorry for the long post !
Sincerely,
Marlie sitting here looking out the window at the foot of snow that fell upon us last night !!

Now take a deep breath and RELAX.
There are no NEW rules as of yet. When that happens Robert will post them. If you go to each forum some of the moderators have a thread on what rules to follow. No one is blackballing you unless you've been told to stop doing something but ignore the warning, which by the way doesn't happen often. I can count on one hand the number of people that have been banned for life in the four and a half years that I've been here.

Relax!!

What Anna said, and...

Don't worry about anything or assume anything.

As usual, some people are making a mountain out of a mole hill without knowing what mud looks like :)

Posters will get plenty of notice if and when we decide to change anything.

Enjoy DR1 and keep posting!

Sorry !

Anna,
I am sorry that you think I am upset, I was just asking.
Yes, I should have not used the word blackballed since that is a pretty strong term, that wasn't where I was going with that comment, unfortunately I am a little foggy today (one too many of those fine Canadian beers last night!!!)
Anyway, sorry if I am too curious - I've always been told that my curiosity will be the death of me.
Until I have any thing intellectual to say - I will sign off.

marliejaneca, nothing wrong with being curious. But if you are going to be a happy poster on this board, you can't be a worrier.

MARLIE, .... get your butt back in here & start writing a few more posts!!! Your contribution IS requested & your opinion will be respected (well, at least by this poster!!).

One thing I would request of you ...... be more confident & don't worry about upsetting people here. Some deserve it, some expect it (in fact they plan for it!!), & some like me get a good laugh out of people getting upset every so often. As both Anna & Ken have said, you won't get stopped from posting a little risque language, the occasional strong response to a "wanker", or even for telling someone they haven't the first idea of what they are talking about - that is expected & welcomed!! If you go too far at any time, Rob or the Moderator for that forum will drop you a gentle reminder in the post to come under a bit more control. Second warning will normally come by Private Message or e-mail to "Cool It" a bit or be "Grounded" from posting for a week or two. REAL SERIOUS stuff!!!

So, don't keep apologising to us for your thoughts/feelings/questions, just jump on in & give the rest of us the benefit of your experiences down here AND of your life experience. Anyway, you look a lot better than Rob so you get my vote over him anyday - even though you are Canadian & he is a Brit!! - Sorry Rob, love her more than you!!! - Grahame.

Press Release

Xanadu Ranch, aka Tom, will be hosting a seminar entitled "DR1 Etiquette for Newbies, Wankers, Communists, and Rablerousers" at the Playa Dorada complex April 1, 2004. This is expected to become an annual event.

There will be special guest appearances by Red Communist Devil, lecturing on "Instigating Flame Wars among DR1 Regulars in Your First Ten Posts", and by Lieutenant Snidely who will discuss "How to Say Absolutely Nothing in 1000 Words or More and Mean Every Word of It". We are still negotiating a fee for a field trip hosted by CC, AZB, and Robert examining via direct interactive experience the relative pros and cons of Viagra and Ugly Black Hookers.

Autographed copies of SHEEPFARMINFL's #1 Best Selling e-Book "One Thousand and One Cut'nPaste Nonsense Posts to Gold Status" (with dedication by MommC) will be available in the lobby for US$39.95 each ($19.95 for registered participants).

Cost per person to attend is US$250. All proceeds to go to increasing the host's stock of fine Andre champagne, gallon jugs of Carlos Rossi wine, and a few bottles of Southeast Austrailian corked white wine. Costs for course materials such as Viagra and sankie fees are not included in the base price but these items may be purchased seperately on the guagua directly on the day of field trip departure.

Excuse my total lack of ignorance, but... what exactly is a wanker? Depending on the meaning that could be only category for which I could apply.

Irregardless.... that was a funny post.

You'd have to ask Rob or Grahame for the exact English translation but I am quite sure, unfortunately, that you were not physically equipped at birth to be able to wank. Ever.

In my business the Brits call them Wankers, and the Americans call them Strokers........You figure it out.

Marlie, if you have something of value to post do it, sounds like you do. Been following this board since the "old days." Just because someone has 10 billion posts doesn't mean they've said anything.

So true, RandyE. Occassionally a poster decides she/he want to get 500 posts and they add their comments to every thread, even though they usually having nothing worthwhile to contribute. However, it usually becomes obvious and they are pounced on by regular posters who live in the Dominican Republic.

Okay, Okay !!!

Got it !!
Thankyou RandyE and Ken and especially to you Grahame for the kind words.
Yes I will keep posting, never planned on stopping but like I said I was not feeling too with it yesterday that is why I said I wasn't going to post anything more - only for that day is what I meant.
Feeling better today so watch out - hahaha!!
Bushbaby - go ahead and put the pic in - remember that was a long time ago - maybe everyone would think I am still young !!! And that lovely bandage on my leg from the motoconcho accident really enhances the leg portion of the pic !!!!
So I will promise not to worry - won't make a mountain out of a molehill - and will wait to see what does happen.
Xanadu Ranch (aka Tom) - only if you think I really need the course will I take out a second mortgage on my house and travel down for some "education" !!! hehe What do you think ??? Since it is 30 below C here right now - it might not take too much coaxing !!!

You completely missed the point. It's not about educating anyone in their posting skills. It's about lining XR's pocket with some US$. Seperating a few of the more gullible DR1'ers from their money as it were. I mean, sooner or later some Dominican is going to do that to you if you are here long enough. Why should they have all the fun?

Tom (aka XR)

P.S.
And in the process, you would get an education. Hehehe.
