I am Domincan but living in NJ since I was 8. I went to college and am very well stablished here. I've been going back to DR every year forever. I would love to move back, but it just seems out so out there for me.

I see that a lot of you are American or European and just live there. What do you guys do for work? What made you decide to move there? How can I make the transition as well? Am I going to be able to get a job and be paid in Dollars??

Here we go again.

We have talked about ourselves to death on this board several times. So I suggest that you do some research in the archives and find out who lives where and who came from where and why. Why is the easy part (just ask Criss colon).
Jobs are very scarce in DR that pay well in pesos so forget about getting a nice job that pays in dollars.

Yea, as much as I enjoy talking about myself ..... enough is enough.
Repitition gets to be a little boring, but AZB - I have a nice job that pays in dollars, as do most of the people I know who live here in the DR.

Stay well,
Amy

Pay in Dollars?

How did you get your pay in dollars? did you get transferred there from your US job? if you dont mind, what do you do and what is a ballpark figure a person with a bachelor degree can get there.

A newbie after all

I am in fact a NEWBIE to all this. One, I have never done a search; two, maybe there are other people who never responded since the last time you guys discussed it?

I tried to do a search, but I dont get the results I want. Any pointers?

No, I did not get transfered here from the US. I'm not even a US citizen.
The way to get your pay in dollars is to work in a dollar economy.
If you're interested in what some of us do for a living read this

(sorry - I don't know if the link will work, you may have to do it the old fashioned way ... copy and paste)

As to the ballpark figure

I have no idea. Maybe HB or AZB can help you out on that one.

Stay well,
Amy

Im sorry Amy, how do you get in this dollar economy you speak of? how do I from point a (US) to point b (DR). I go there all the time, and If I'm not into the government or 'pega con alguien' it seems that I have no chance!

If what you want

is for someone to draw up a business plan for you ..... you'll have to pay me (in dollars). See? That's a perfect example of working in a dollar economy.
I'll explain a bit more.
I live here. (DR)
You live there. (US)
You want something.
I have it.
You give me dollars for it.
:)
All you have to figure out is what people want and how to let them know that you have it. And then convince them to buy it from you, not from your competitor.

Stay well,
Amy

ABCD.... now I know my abc's next time won't you play with me...

Talldrink,

The chances of you coming here and applying to a corporation and getting a decent pay in dollars is slim to none.

The chances of you coming here and applying to a corporation and getting a decent pay in pesos is slim to none.

So do what everyone else does make your own job....

What is your degree in? It cannot be Economics or Business (which mine is in).... Supply and Demand

Find something people are demanding... figure out how to supply it at a decent price and BAM! You have your own job (chances are in dollars)!

At least for me, the nice thing about not keeping secrets or making up stories is that I never have to remember what lies I told to which person. Especially to my lovely wife, since I only tell her the truth and we never hide anything from each other - it's called respect. This becomes increasingly important as you get older and more forgetful. No need to keep your 'stories' straight. Word to the young and foolish. Don't hate, participate.

And yes, it's always party time at Xanadu. Just now that Amy has a paying dollar job she loves it's time to PAY to PLAY.

That's what I thought!
You either have to know the President of the company or be his daughter to get anything out there. I tried. before I got married I was sure I wanted to move to DR and work and live there happily ever after. It was so hard to find a decent paying job there. I'm currently making in the upper 50's a year and it looks like I would have to do magic there to make that much!

Talldrink, you say you're dominican and that you visit the DR regularly, I'm a little surprise that you come to a public board to ask advice on how to move to your own country!

Why does the DR seem so out there for you? do you have close relatives down there? I'm just curious because I'm also dominican and I visit frequently. During all those visits my family keeps me up to date with what's going on, etc.
