If you search Google or search here past posts there have been several links to the site for the DR-PR ferry. I think it may be cheaper to fly with enough advance booking. If i recall the ferry was no deal , of course if you have to take the car it is the only way.

Rick,

I took the ferry from the west coast of PR back in Jul 2002. It departs from the port of Mayaquez PR 2 or 3 times a week and from San Juan 2 or 3 times a week. If you have a car the trip to Mayaquez is cheeper...think I paid about 125 US roundtrip. The trip takes about 10 - 12 hours. You will depart in the afternoon and get to PR in AM the next day. They have a decent resteraunt and cafe, a casino and a Disco with a merenque band ( OK Show). The cabins are pretty plane unless you get the upgrade. An airline ticket would probably cost less unless you just have to much stuff to carry or a car to take. Hope this helps. Let us know.

Bye the way, I think the name of the company is Caribe Ferries.

Sure! They're called 'Yola's' in Dominican Spanish. Just so happenes I can sell you a ticket on one of mine for USD$2000. That includes, the plywood Yola with two 55 gallon drums underneath for bouyance and a hearty push off toward PR by my Haitian employees. PM me to arrange ticket purchase and next-of-kin insurance.

Rick,

I took the ferry from the west coast of PR back in Jul 2002.

Here's more recent and a lot more expensive info:

Mayag?ez--Dominican Republic Route
M/V Regal Voyager Ferry $109-$247 (tax included) per person, round trip
11-12 hours one-way

2- or 4-door cars $146.00
Vans & others $176.00

Mayag?ez to Dominican Republic
Monday, Wednesday & Friday
Departure: 8:00 p.m.
Arrival: 8:00 a.m. the next day

Dominican Republic to Mayag?ez
Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday
Departure: 8:00 a.m.
Arrival: 8:00 p.m. the next day

And from yahoo!

It is possible to arrive via ferry from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, on Ferias del Caribe (tel 809/688-4400, Puerto Rico tel 787/832-4800), but it's a long, uncomfortable overnight trip. Ferries depart Mayaguez three times a week; the cost is US$144 one-way, plus the US$10 entry tax and US$60 for a private cabin. Plus the car of course.
