The peso is at about 50 RD for 1 USD...

Cant really answer your other questions since i'm also interested in knowing where the "hot spots" are in Cabarete...

You will love the Tangerine though...I went for Thanksgiving and already have my reservations set for February 25th... Definitely the best resort (in food and cleanliness) i've visited in the D.R.!

Say hi to the Brit woman Sylvia that sells crafts at Viva on Mondays. She lives in Sosua and knows the places around town.

Lots of places to go. Jet ski at Sosua Beach. Clubs in Sosua and Cabarete. Look up night life in Sosua and Cabarete here.

Nice Jazz club in Cabarete across from the Mini golf on the main drag in town, LAX on the beach is a nice place on the beach. Rockys and Eddys are gin mills in Sosua I like. High Caribbean and Latino clubs for dancing in Sosua. Let me know what else you want to know about. I live here.

Is the resort completely finished? I read stuff about it not being completed and about people being bumped. So I take it that changing money is best left when you get there and done in US dollars..any recomendations where to change money? I will say hi to Sylvia when I see her , i will be the one drowning in the pool with alcohol poisoning. joking. how far is sosua from the viva tangerine? I'd really like to bag a jetski for a day on those waves. :) how far is the viva from all the surrounding attractions? cabride/walking distance?

I noticed NO construction what so ever when I was there in November. Resort was complete and fully operational as far I could tell.

Thats good about the construction.. Thanks. I work at a casino here and am interested in doing some gambling also... Does anyone have some insight on what these establishments are like down here? (never been to DR).

Go out of the resort and if you are going to Sosua just flag down a taxi type of car with a red sign on top. 10 Pesos and you can go to Sosua. To go to Cabarete cross the street. Have exact change.

Ride like a local if you don't want to get ripped off by a taxi. They have motor bikes that act like taxis also. You jump on the back and they take you for a cheap price. You may get killed that way but hell you wont get ripped off.
