About 100 US Dollars is the (monthly)Per Capita income!

But don't take my word for it.Go to the CIA World Fact Book.Cris Colon

Well i am living in The Netherlands together with lovely girl from Santo Domingo now for at least 6 years and she has gone to see her parents after some years.
I just send her 5000 pesos < she is coming home sunday next> so i was wondering .
It is just 88 euro's i know but still.
I send her family 300 euro's a month, which is not a problem for my financial situation.

You are a nice man!

I think that 300 Euros would be close to 20,000 pesos a month at the current rate!I bet everyone in her family has stopped working! That is a lot of money here!Cris Colon

Minimum wage is approx. 3300 pesos per month. That is probably what the majority of Dominicans earn. I think its unreal to give 10% of what you bring in per month to her family.

I have a cousin that works in the San Isidro free zone, doing customer service in english-- yes, good American jobs gone south! He makes $10,000 pesos and is very happy.

According to the CIA World Fact Book DR's GDP- per capita is US$6,300, so that makes it US$525 a month. (these figures are not updated:2002)

Haver is a smart guy. He's got a beautiful woman, she is happy that her family is well taken care of, Haver doesn't miss the money and is feeling good about himself. I'm sending about 15,000 per month, which I could easily piss away in New York without knowing where it's gone. Instead, a small family in SD is breaking the cycle of hopelessness. It's a win, win. - D (I know, wrong forum). - D

Maybe I could live there

Maybe I could live in the DR on my monthly income, but I have to convince the Warden to sell the house, downsize at least so we have a place here in Canada for the summer and move down, tough proposition.

My fixed is a bit more than 125,000 $RD at current exchange rate, I think I might be able to make ends meet.

Then I could live the life of luxury like MommC.
