Info. on EMI Sun Village

Any info. about the Sun Village in Puerto Plata. I was there last year, great time. I've been reading neg. reviews (taken w/ a grain of salt of course) on how this resort has gone down-hill.
Also any recommendations on things to do nearby resort, off of the beaten path, Not the Rum Factory, please.
And could anyone recommend a good/reasonably priced fishing charter?

Sun Village is fine, if you can handle all the stairs. I think its much better standard than any hotel in Playa Dorada.

On Cofresi Beach where Sun Village is you can find a few nice places. Chris and Mady's on one side and the Safari Bar up on the point on the other side can be nice.

You can also venture across the main highway and try one of the Austrian/German restaurants like Los Dos or Papillion.

sun village first timer also

hi,
i have read all of the negative reviews about sun village also. my hubby and i are coming to sun village in 2 weeks and now are nervous about it. will someone please give me some positive feedback on the resort??!! also, about the restaurants that burned...are they back in order???
