My boyfriend and I will be heading down to the DR in a few weeks and are planning to spend a couple of days in Santo Domingo. The Sofitel Nicolas de Ovando looks like a beautiful hotel on their website - has anyone stayed there or can tell me more about it?

We also want to check out some nightclubs - are there any in the district or are they more on the boulevard? Are there dress codes? How safe is it in the Zone at night?

And lastly, any cheap places to eat there?

JAN should be able to give you the lowdown on the Colonial Zone. I've read several reviews on the Sofitel Nicolas. It's supposed to be a first rate hotel.

That hotel is beautiful.
In general ZC is safe at night. Theres clubs everywhere. Resturants also. Many arn't that much money. Cafeteria on El Connde is a great place to hang, eat, drink and people watch.
