Hmm...this is my first season back in the land where Baseball Matters.

In Virginia it was football, and the damn Wizards who stank anyway.

I hope to catch a Red Sox game over the summer, or at least listen to games on the radio while gardening.

i have my tickets already:
opening game on april 4 @ camden yards in baltimore. p. mart?nez and the red sox start their attack on the yankees by proxy. tejada, palmeiro and company obviously have other plans for pedro that day...and for a-rod & co. later.

the AL east ought to be pretty exciting to watch this year (exception being Tampa Bay). Blue Jays have good pitching. Orioles good batting. The Red Sox and Yankees, of course have both solid pitching and hitting.

Go O's!

I'm a lowly Mets fan, but still anxious about the season. Hopefully, Jose Reyes can stay injury free and truly show what he's capable of doing.

Also looking forward to seeing the Yankees play the Red Sox this year. ARod will show the baseball world what a fraud Jeter is as a ballplayer. Jeter is pretty good, NOT the superstar the media and Yankee fans make him out to be.

What a pile of text throwup that is!

Are they going to hold hands between pitches? Chest bump after the innings, spoon in the dugout? Who's gonna be in the two hole?

Sorry Larry, you left that one out there like a John Leiber fastball, 84 and juicy!

I love you MaineGirl! Joe Castglione and Jerry Trupiano are my best friends in the summer. Greatest radio tandem.

Perhaps old news, but if you sign up through MLB.com, you can get all the games - either teams radio broadcast - over the internet. I believe it was $10 or $12 last year.

As a sport nut: football, Nascar, boxing, hockey, and Baseball. I say with a bold voice: GO TIGERS. Laugh all you want, but I am true to my state and not a band wagon jumper. With Tramm at the helm, I think the club will improve but will take time. Fond memories going to the mid 80's as a young boy watching: Jack Morris, Kirk Gibson, Trammel, Sweet Lou Whittaker, and Chet Lemon, etc. Oh the Glory Days of the Tigers.

Poor Cleef. Typical Red Sox fan. Too bad you guys couldn't sign A-Rod. Sour Grapes.

The media has mad such a big deal about the ARod signing, as if he were replacing Enrique Wilson as a starter on the Yankees. ARod is much better than Soriano, but Soriano is no slouch either. I know he was awful in the series, but that does not take away from what he has done the last two years.
Now getting those 40 wins back from Pettite and Clemens, that will be a feat.

I agree 100% with that. Your previous post where you slighted Jeter however was WAY off the mark. Have you watched any October baseball at all in the past 7 years???

I won't take anything away from Jeter's postseason stats, although Mark Lemke had some pretty outstanding numbers in the postseason for the Braves as well. That, however, does not in a million years qualify him to be in the top 10 in player salaries. His regular season numbers have consistently dropped over the last few years, as has his range and play at SS.
Not only is Jeter not the best player on his team during the run, Bernie was, he's about the 4th best player at his position in the sport. Putting him 4th, in 2004, is also giving him the benefit of the doubt, as one can argue that Renteria, Berroa and Furcal are just as good.
If Jeter were on the Royals, he would be, well Angel Berroa. No press, no fuss. Jeter was also voted on ESPN as the 2nd or 3rd most over-rated athlete of ALL-TIME.
Jeter's aura is 100% NY and Yankee made. He's had a few good years, but when you compare them to Arod, Nomar and Tejada, they pale in comparison. In this juiced up baseball world, who can't hit 10hr and 52rbi's, as a part-time player, let alone an everyday "Star?"

Jeter brings something to the table that you can't put your finger on. I don't care what espn says or anyone else. He does not have good power numbers. I agree. Please don't utter Miguel Tejada's name in the same sentence as Derek Jeter's. The A's entire season went down the tubes because of his boneheadedness ( is that a word?) in the playoffs last year. Jeter NEVER makes bad decisions. Not in the field nor on the basepaths. I agree, his range is not as good as it was before the shoulder injury last year. Bottom line is JETER WINS. Ok? Jeter is the all time basehit leader in the postseason in the HISTORY of baseball. And he is less than 30 years old. You make a case for Bernie? Bernie gets hot and cold. Jeter ALWAYS heats up and plays his best baseball in October. He does it in the spotlight in NY year after year and there are few who can perform on that kind of stage and under that kind of scruitiny in the way he has. There are a lot of guys who hit the ball harder, have better throwing arms, better range, etc. I know this to be true. I also see those guys fizzle out come September in the race for the playoffs or cool off once they reach the playoffs. Jeter does neither. He heats up and his team wins. What did Nomar do in the playoffs last year? Do you want me to dig up and post his batting average in the series with the Yankees? I rest my case.

Yes Jeter's "Leadership" abilities do nothing when the Marlins starter is shutting you out on your home field in the deciding game. How much of a leader was Mattingly and how many rings did that get him.
You can be George Patton, but without the right men following, you're not going to win. Is it your contention that with Tejada, ARod or Nomar at SS all those years, the Yankees don't win the Series? Is this your contention? Of course you don't care what ESPN or any other objective source says, the fact that you're a Yankee fan makes you bias.
For years we heard here in NY how Yankee fans wouldn't give Jeter up for any of the other SS, no matter how good they were because they weren't "leaders." So why are they NOW falling all over ARod as the 2nd coming, if he wasn't that good to begin with?
As far as the stats for Nomar last year, they were not good, still doesn't take away from him as a player. Look at Bond's stats prior to the 2002 playoffs, would you not want him on your team either? Like I said before, Mark Lemke has some phenomenal postseason stats, lets annoint him great as well.

Like I said before, Jeter is a good player, but gets more press because he plays in NY. Players like Vladimir or Arod, who played in obscure baseball towns, get press because of talent, not the media. Jeter would be an asterisk if he played in Montreal or Texas.

You slag Jeter because he dosen't win the World Series EVERY year? OK.

Mattingly was a great leader but didn't have the supporting cast. No one can do it alone.

Would the yankees have won with A-Rod, Nomar or Tejada at SS all those years? I don't know. I DO know that they did it with Jeter.

Why are we falling all over A-ROD? Because he is great. Is A-Rod a better all around player than Jeter? Absolutely. Would the Yankkesd have won with A-Rod instead of Jeter all those years? Again, I do not know. Sometimes Superstars of A-Rod's caliber detract from the team. A-Rod was on a good Seattle team in 98 and the Yankees knocked them out of the playoffs.

Would I want Bonds onmy team? Never. For reason please see above. Sometimes superstars detract from the team and Bonds is a perfect exapmle of that.

I agree that Jeter gets more press and attention because he is playing for the Yankees but you cannot argue with success. If the Yanks we in last place every year but Jeter had the same stats, he would not be considered more than an above average shortstop. Likewise, if Jeter was on the Royals and the Royals were in the postseason every year much like the Yanks have been, Jeter would be looked upon as a superstar. Playing in NY helps a little but either you win or you don't get the headlines...no matter where you play. Jeter wins.

We agree to disagree. I remember having these same arguments about Mattingly and Keith Hernandez back in the 80's. Donnie baseball was supposedly so much more superior and a better leader, but Keith had 2 rings.

Arod, was not considered better than Jeter, by most Yankee fans I know, until he signed with the Yanks.
A .300+ hitter with minimal power, needs help to aid their team in winning. A 50+ homer player, such as ARod, does not.
Like I said, when Arod is batting .320 with 40hr and 120 rbi, next to Jeter batting also around .320 but with 10hr and 50rbi, it will just show what most of America already knows. Jeter good player on a great team and got most of the credit for the team's success.
He's as Over-rated as Bernie and Mo Rivera are Under-rated.
