I am interested in finding a different gay friendly Hotel in Santo Domingo. I have stayed 3 weeks previously in the last two years at the Duque Of Wellington but I ws not happy the last time with the new Italian partner who is changing the hotel dramatically.

I am looking for a gay owned/operated or gay friendly hotel that has very nice english speaking staff and allows local guests into the room. I have met a very nice Dominican boy the last two times I stayed there and I am hoping that I can go again in June and be with him while I am the hotel. Does anyone know if the Renaissance Jaragua allows guests into the room?

I also found the Casa de Monaga in the Colonial Zone but not sure how nice it is and if it allows overnight Guests into the room.

I would prefer some hotel on the Malecon or in the Colonial Zone. Someplace where there is no hassle with bringing a boy to your room. A swimming pool and restaurant or bar/cafe would be nice but not totally necessary. If anyone can provide me a recommendation I would greatly appreciate it.

Please feel free to email me with any recommendations or information you may have.

Best Regards,

Jim

The Jaragua is not guest friendly at all and you will have to try to sneak guests in and I have heard from others it is not easy. I have been there a couple of times and at the Champs bar there talked to a couple of men who were complaining that they were having a heck of a time trying to sneak guests in and bribing when necessary but at times, even that didn't help. I also think the rooms are 100US plus a night as well. Maybe if you registered both of you together when you checked in there would be no problem but that would limit you to just one partner. I have stayed at Hotel Napolitano on el malecon, with pool, restaurant, small casino, a/c, safe, and I think it is about 75US a night now and is guest friendly. Mercure in the colonial zone is guest friendly as well and that is about 65US a night. Make sure your friend has a cedula(ID) and with these hotels never have had a problem with multiple female guests. Not trying to criticize or anything but I was cringing when you kept using the word boy, so people don't get the wrong idea, I think young man is a better term to use. You may run into problems with smaller hotels(guest houses) if trying to bring back a partner of the same sex so I would stick with larger guest friendly hotels and both places I mentioned have safes and that in my book is a necessity when bringing back strange ladies into my room. Maybe other people know of other hotels that are more reasonable, with pool, bar, and restaurant that permit guests regardless of gender.

Thanks Dale7

When I said "boys" I was talking about 20-25 year olds. Seeing as I am in my mid-40's I call them boys but your more correct to call them young men. Thanks for the recommendations on hotels. I will check them out by emailing them and making sure they have no problems with overnight visitors.

I always use the safes in the room. That is a mandatory feature as well.
Are these hotels all within 5-10 walking distance of El Conde?

Many thanks again.

Mercure Hotel Update Dale7

I just found this notice from Monaga.com website on the Mercure:

The Mercure Comercial Hotel is located right on El Conde (the "strip") in the Colonial Zone. It has a outdoor cafe that is one of the best spots in Santo Domingo for people watching. The staff at the hotel is multilingual and gay friendly, but the management is not as nice.

*We have just been informed that because of an incident at the hotel the Mercure is not allowing guests to bring anyone to their room. We don't know if this is a permanent situation, or just overreaction because of a recent incident. We will keep you informed (6/29/03).
