There was a small fee to enter. It had some nice areas, and a museum that showed how the area probably looked originally. There are some shops there where we bought some statues made with polished wood (very old tribal-type) and there were some paintings too. There is a re-built church in the general area, that is also very beautiful. The only problem, we were told that Trujillo had ordered the area bull-dozed, so it's not an archaeological dig. But interesting, nonetheless.
If you're going that way, from Puerto Plata, check out the fort, and the cable car. They're pretty cool too.
