We're staying in Las Terrenas one week in late May. I've been to all the web sites which list activities, & we see there's a lot to do. I'm wondering if there are any highly-recommended excursions or self-guided adventures we should undertake while we're there?

--Any little towns we should visit (or maybe hike to)?
--Any off-the-beaten path things we should do?
--Any day-trips we shouldn't miss
--Any tips on getting the best-priced excursions (including taking gua-guas to starting off points).
--Any preferred tour operators (ie, for maybe a trip to Los Haitises Park or other excursions)
--any other advice/tips?

I'd like to hear from frequent visitors to the area or locals what they recommend for a little adventure, nature &/or culture. I just need something else to day dream about!

rent bicycly

We stayed in Playa Bonita, close to Las terrenas.
We rented bicycles (mountain bikes) in las Terrenas for 6 dollars per day.
It is on las terrenas beach, passed the hotel el colibri. In the street next to the bicycle rental (called LOcaBike) there is a ranch (Isabel???) who do horse rides along the beach.

You can also rent little 4 wheel drives (quads they call em) for +- 40 dollars per day.

Las terrenas is a beautiful place!
