Here in San Diego, we're hearing reports of 100 bodies and 200 missing in one town alone near the Haitian border after a river broke through its banks. We knew you were getting slammed with heavy rains, but my God. And this isn't a hurricane, is it?

I hope all of you there who are reading this are safe and will remain so. For whatever little comfort it's worth, we're praying for you here.

In the deep southwest near the border

The tragedy of the river overflowing its banks happened in the deep southwest near the border with Haiti in an arid area populated by some of the most unfortunate people in the country. It is far away from the tourist areas.

Most of the rivers of the country are running very high since it's been raining daily for the entire month of May but most of those affected are people that have moved in near the rivers or low-lying areas and are used to dealing with this 'inconvenience' occasionally.

In the bigger cities, the heavy rains are just a traffic circulation problem.
