The director of the Department for the Prevention of Corruption of the Mejia administration, Jesus Feliz Jimenez, admitted that he purchased 176 tareas (1 tarea = 629 meters) of State Sugar Council Lands at Km 22 of the Autopista Duarte at a price of RD$882,550. This translates to RD$5,000 per tarea, or about RD$8 per square meter ? a minute fraction of the true market value. Jimenez said he made a down payment of 35%, with the remainder to be paid in instalments. TV?s investigative journalist Nuria Piera had revealed the purchase of State Sugar Council and Dominican Agrarian Institute land by Mejia government officers, including Feliz, at these meager prices last Saturday evening on her Color Vision program.
