Cabarete is very small, if you stand on the beach side of Jose Oshea's and just look around you will be able to see any party going on. If it is early in the evening, just hike up the beach towards Onno's until you see a place that looks cool and stay there till some other place looks cooler. Before you know it it will be 4AM or so and you will be extremely drunk.

Welll ....

I live in Cabarete and hang out with the local crowd! It has a pumping nightlife every day of the week, but of course Fri and Sat are the best nights because people come from Santiago and the Capital and its a great party. My suggestion would be start out at Lax and then when that closes at one head to Bambu, Onnos, or Crazy West! Those are the three "clubs/discos" on the beach. You can actually dance there, Jose O Shea's is more of a touristy "just get drunk" place!

Have fun!

What kind of music?

What do they spin at the local clubs? Mostly local (e.g. Merengue, Bachata, Salsa) music, or otherwise?

Music selection depends on the club, but rarely strays much from mainstream unless there is a particularly cool DJ around. Expect standard MTV fare plus Whatever's happening in Europe at the moment.

Merengue/Bachata/Salsa need not apply except in a few select bars in Cabarete that cater to locals and tourists who thihk they are being adventurous.

For local music, Las Brisas, plays Merengue and Bachata, as well as spanish rap.

Onno's starts the night out with hip hop then goes to techno/house then back to hip hop. Bambu does mostly hip hop with a lot of spanish rap and mixes in the house music during the night!
