I was wondering if anyone has ever worked teaching English at any of the language schools in the DR -- especially in Santo Domingo. I took Spanish classes at the Dominico last time I was in Santo Domingo, and was considering applying to teach there (don't worry, it wouldn't be the only money I would live off of). If anyone has any advice or stories of teaching in the DR, I would be interested in hearing from you. Thank you.

I've done it.

They don't pay all that well (I really can't say if they have kept up that policy) but there are some benefits.

You meet an awful lot of really nice people being the foremost benefit.

You are also in the know about cultural events that can make life more interesting.

Know ye, language teaching can be an exhausting job. And I mean physically exhausting.

Yeah... I know it's not easy...I spent last year teaching adult Haitians how to read and write in Spanish at Batey San Isidro -- or at least attempting to do so... Thanks for the response, HB....
