We are making our first trip to DR next month. We are arriving in Santo Domingo and staying one night then up to Las Galeras. What is the best (and economical) method of transportation from a hotel in Santo Domingo city to Las Galeras. We do not want to rent a car.
Also any modest - but safe - hotel recommendations in Santo Domingo would be appreciated.

Take a taxi from the hotel to Caribe Tours or Metro in Santo Domingo and take the bus to Samana. In Samana you will need to take a taxi to Las Galeras, unless the hotel you are staying at makes arrangements to pick you up.

Caribe Tours has more buses to Samana than does Metro. It has buses leaving at 7, 8:30 and 10am and 1, 2:30 and 4pm. The trip takes about 4.5 hours, except one takes a shorter route.

Tell us what you mean by "modest" hotel with respect to prices and services desired.

As we haven't been there its hard to know what things will cost. but under $50 USD hopefully. And we don't need "services" really. Just clean and safe and in a good area to get to a restaurant and some nightlife. thank you.
