I havent been to the DR yet so Im seeking your opinions re 'holiday romances' and how one should handle the economics of the situation, given the economic inequality of the two people involved (Dominican and tourist)

Is there an unspoken "understanding" of how things should be done?

In DR is it like elsewhere.... where male tourists will pay all expenses when with a local woman and give her some cash as well, whereas female tourists may expect the Dominican male to contribute a little bit and not give cash but give rather expensive gifts?

So (from a womans point of view) is it acceptable to dance with, sleep with and enjoy the company of a local man then give NO gift or cash and if he asks say "my understanding was that you we equally enjoyed the pleasure of each others company. I'm not going to pay you for your time."?

Prostitution Works Like This:

A (M or F) has sex with B. A pays B.

Female tourists' expectations for gifts would need to be tempered by the fact that the DR male has no money, no way to get money and if he did would not spend it on gifts. Instead A (F) gives money or things of value to B (M) because B (Sankie) is a prostitute. The gift that keeps on taking.

For the reverse the same is true, A (M) has sex with B (F) who gets all the formalities out of the way and unless she can first suck in A into buying food or cell phone cards or beer, she asks for a set sum up front and has the sex and then A (M) knows what he bought, no strings attached.

Caveat: A few A's (M's) think they have found a girlfriend ( novia) and then send B money by Western Union after they get e-mail from B saying that she is sick, her mother is sick, her kids are sick, the dog is sick, the cat is also sick and they bought a cow and it too, is sick.

This I know because sometimes I am asked to help the B's (F's) write the e-mails. They send prodigious amounts of them to many boyfriends at one time, thus redefining the term as we know it (e.g. you are supposed to only have one at a time). They also get ahead of you in line at the cambio picking up money transfers from several locations at once. Sometimes they walk out with more money than I do.

So the moral of this story is to lower your expectations, use condoms (with some sankies, the bi-curious ones, in particular, perhaps 7 or 8 at once - in addition to protection, the splint-like action will save on Viagra costs). The local Pante brand, use only 4 as they are like bicycle inner tubes to begin with. I don't even think they are transparent. Excellent bathing caps as well, a bit tight and too darn long.

And your last paragraph won't work any better than chatting with the front desk clerk about your common home town and the kids , maybe a friendly cocktail after the clerk finished the shift, then in the morning when you check out you say "we had such a good time as each other's company I don't have to pay for the room".

I just want to get this right before I go

So if I want to have sex with any local man there will be an unspoken presumption that he is prostituting himself and that I must pay him?

also this example is wacked:
"And your last paragraph won't work any better than chatting with the front desk clerk about your common home town and the kids , maybe a friendly cocktail after the clerk finished the shift, then in the morning when you check out you say "we had such a good time as each other's company I don't have to pay for the room".

that makes sense if I had said I went to a brother and after having sex refused to pay because the prostitute enjoyed the sex too.

Are you telling me that the entire Dominican Republic is one huge brothel and every person living there is a prostitute?? hmmm I didnt know that! Can I get a brochure detailing the services available and fees (as one might for a hotel)?

Listen, it's easy

Go out with your sankie, pay for the taxi, pay for the drinks/food, pay for the room in a by-the-hour hotel, enjoy the sex (taking care to protect yourself), go back to your hotel. Simple.

dancebaby, just accept the fact that you haven't yet been to the Dominican Republic and know nothing about how things are here. Just do what Dominican Babe says and enjoy your fling with a sankie. Then you can post a report and tell us all about it.

And like Ricktoronto (who has spent more time in the DR than you ever will) advises, don't imagine you fell in love with your sankie and join the list of women he receives money and phone calls from, and who he jokes about with the other sankies.

Well, Yes

And I say: If he isn't the mayor or an army genreal or bank manager, pretty well you are right with this comment. 99% of the time it is an "animacion" or "chocolate friend" (a really terrible term coined by Hamaca) or other resort worker who you will be drqwn to because he is young and good looking ( and without seeing you I bet better looking that you are , relative to gender) and will have some English ( because God forbid a tourist learns any of the language where they travel to) and will have the experience and skill to woo you (taking all of 15 seconds to do so) . Also being an AI worker they have access INSIDE the AI, an advantage over the female sex workers who are banned from entering with male tourists. I haven't heard of many men bedding down female staff at AI's or even maids and the like.

Witty retort #2: This was an attempt at an analogy - your implication that these men would somehow be thankful you had sex with them and wouldn't expect payment of some kind is just wrong. They have sex with MANY tourists of both sexes (remember to stock up on protectivos and don't take no for an answer) who pay so why are you special?

Are you telling me that the entire Dominican Republic is one huge brothel and every person living there is a prostitute?? hmmm I didnt know that! Can I get a brochure detailing the services available and fees (as one might for a hotel)?

Well there are a lot more than you think. You are looking at it as some organized business. It is a bunch of people that have a different approach to sex and less hangups about getting paid for it. But compared to where you live and that can be ANYWHERE in N. America, it is more like a brothel than your town. Of course nobody would say the whole county is such a place.

I am thinking you are now p_i_ssed (typed to defeat auto-censor) off because you are cheap and don't want to pay your fair share. And since you read and post and haven't been there, it's time to go there, verdad? Bring the rubbers. Lots and lots and lots....

The truth shall set you free (well, 500 pesos).

Dancebaby are you going to the DR just to get laid? If so, what a waste of money. It's a beautiful Island with very friendly people so just go for a holiday and enjoy and I'm sure the opportunity will present itself.

Some people worry too much about nada.

Just like many women before you, you will return home thinking about the romantic time you had.

The guy laid the pipe and is now playing his new lottery number.

Women for some reason get so mad when they find out they just hired a prostitute. Most of the times a bi sexual one.

Men go in with their eyes open. We know the deal and don't even bother to ask the girl's name.

Do a quick search and you can see the hundreds of times this has already been covered.

Been there done that.... NOT

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Last month I met a lovely dominicana in Boca Chica. Had a great time....
I thought I would send an occassional gift since she did not ask for it.

I called her about a week after I got back and asked for her address (I did not tell her I was thinking about sending money). She told me that she did not have an address where I could write her, but that she would fax me the information needed to send money via Western Union.

So much for the pretty latina that does not ask for money.

I did not give her my fax number, she does not have MY phone number, and I think I will keep it that way. Funny thing about gifts.... they require a giver.
I am the type of giver who prefers to give when not asked.

Thanks for all the tips on the board. Next time I come to Boca Chica, I would like to buy you a beer.

just trying to open my eyes BEFORE I arrive

GEEZE guys,
you talk about how stupid females who "fall in love" with sankies are. How are we women supposed to know better when those who do know dont give us the low down until its too late.

You tell me to just go and learn for myself ?? thats not helpful

Of course I will go there, why else would I ask anything?

Am I going there for sex? Hell no. I'm going there to dance - dance dance dance dance dance! Dancing CAN be better than sex (imo)

I am single and there is at the very least a slim chance that I will fancy one of my dance partners which may lead to kissing, which may lead to sex. I just want to get an idea IN ADVANCE on what the expectations involved may be - eg. that if I dont pay - gift, cash whatever - that I am being a "tightarse who doesnt pay my way" and if there is such an expectation what is appropriate?

Go to the DR like you would go anywhere else. Expect to pay for what you get and NOT get true love when you are there for a week. If you think you are getting true love your man is a good worker and should be tipped well. When you go home rejoice in your thoughts but never give your phone number or contact info unless you want to have the money dance for the rest of your year.

Hope this works for you. If you are not too attractive, overweight and have had a hard time finding a hunk where you come from, don't fret, you will find them crawling at your toes. If you are good looking and slim you will not have as much success. They will think you don't need them. If you think I am wrong then Dominican Men have the worst taste in the world:)

Jazzy honey, "taste" is an individual thing and thank the good Lord everyone's "taste" is not the same. If I beleived for one minute that what you say is right then I would have to say that Dominican women have worse "taste" than then their men. But then I don't beleive it. ;)

What he means is that most of the sankies will go with females or males as long as they (the sankie) get something out of it. Just do a search on sankies, read up on the subject, you will soon get the hang of it.

Gringo, how on earth do you know this?? women have a far greater sense of humour than men and would laugh at this. I, for one, would find it highly amusing. p.s. know any good ones?

Tell me something, if you were going anywhere else is the world on holiday would you contact their local message board and ask these silly questions? or perhaps the local tourist info might help?? Do you always ask how to do it before you go. Follow Dominican Babes advice and enjoy yourself, but DONT
give them money, if they dont ask for anything, dont think they're sincere, they might be just biding their time. Use that international old fashioned thing called "common sense" Good luck. When and where are you coming to exactly? :) As far as dancing being better than sex, that is so sad, perhaps you should come (excuse the pun), you will soon find out about holding onto the side of the bed as it feels as if the earth just moved... isnt that right Charlie?? :lick:
