It takes an hour and change from the highway to the town, but you will not find a hotel, such as you describe up there.
The drive there is nothing less than awesome, but there's nothing to do once you get there.

Contanza in the tourist's eye is a sleepy town, not much to do as far as activities, other than to visit the market area or sight see the agriculture operations in the valley. Alto Cerro Villas has great accomodations overlooking the valley, their rooms are clean and comfortable with cooking facilities. They do have an on-site restaurant, however the last time I visited it was closed. There is decent dining in town at Lorenzo's.

PJT would suggest Jarabacoa would be a better family destination, it has rivers for swimming and rafting, waterfalls, horesback riding, and a variety of restaurants. It has been a while since I have been there, if things have not changed, the Hotel Gran Jimenoa is a nice place to stay, it has a pool, swimming in the nearby river, and a restaurant. PJT advises if you do go there to ask for a room away from the pool area, less noise and distraction when you want some quiet time.

Also you have the option if you are driving a 4 x 4 to take a day trip over the mountain road from Jarabacoa to Constanza, the views are spectacular.

Regards,
PJT

We stay at "Mi Caba?a Resort" ( http://www.micabana.bizland.com/ ) in Constanza for a weekend in April for less then $100us for a 2 bedroom villa, you could call Yolanda Collado de Dur?n
(809) 539-2930 Fax : (809) 539-2930 e-mail: micabana@hotmail.com .

More information about accommodations in Constanza at www.constanza.net , not much to do in town, but the sourounding area is awsome!

Driving time from Autopista Duarte is 1 hr and half , more or less.

Have a good trip, and post your trip comments on DR1.

Hi,
There?s a great ranch in Constanza called Rancho Guaraguao. It is at 1600m in altitude, has a variety of cabins, restaurants, heated indoor pool & jacuzzi, games room, horseback riding, four-wheeler excursions, a great kid?s park etc...
The cabins have different themes, some have kitchens therefore you can bring your own food or opt for the meal plans, either MAP (breakfast & supper) or FAP (breakfast, lunch & supper). Drinks are not included.

The prices are very reasonable. It is really a great place to spend a weekend. Right now they have a special from Sunday to Friday at half price. You pay per cabin not per person except for the meal plans.

Call the sales office here in Santo Domingo at 508-3333 and/or check out their website, www.ranchoguaraguao.com

I?ve been there for a weekend and have sent many people and everybody just loves it.

Ask for Jessie or Haydee.

San Jose is not as well know to tourists as Constanza. But it is in the mountains out side Santiago. Very cool and beautiful. There is a hotel there called La Mansion. They have a nice pool etc.
